Purple Peace Frog / Stuffed Reverse Applique Mola Animal
Aren't these frogs adorable? These have been created by Mola Mama. Per the artist's description: "As frogs are vanishing fast from the planet.. we are celebrating them here at Molamama! Purple Peace Frog also celebrates the sign of the 60's in hand sewn reverse applique Mola! Beautifully hand stitched applique by a very gifted Kuna Indian artist.. San Blas Islands, Panama. He is soft.. loveable.. whimsical and well sewn.. mate to 'Green Peace Frog' as seen in my shop. Features 10 large, colorful peace signs (spots) and lots of labor intensive mola stitchery. Each piece of cloth was cut and carefully hand stitched using time honored mola making techniques. While designing this frog on my Mac.. and listening to The Doors' song.. 'Peace Frog'.. the spots magically turned into peace signs.. :)) Check out the embroidery on each spot & the wonderful traditional mola elements called 'kwinni kwinni' or 'puntitas'. These are the turquoise reverse applique dots that you see from head to toe.. 35 in all. Pre-Colombian indigenous peoples considered the frog as revered. That sentiment still exists in Panama. The frog is also associated with fertility, healing & good fortune.. and in this case.. peace! Visualize it with the help of 'Purple Peace'! "
