This is such a wonderful book full of great pictures of small, medium, big and giant scultpures and status of Buddhas all over the world. It's an art book, a travel book, a buddhist book and a life book.

A classic book to read to a kid. It teaches counting up to 9 and back down again. Plus, there's hippos having a house party! How much more fun can you get? One of my favourites to read to my son.

So while you're rocking your little one for what seems like forever, help pass the time with songs you can sing along to in your head to help keep you sane. Some other artists the cds are based on: U2, Led Zeppelin, Metallica, Nirvana, The Beatles, and oh so many more. There's pretty much something for everyone. (The Cure one is the one I listened to over and over again. Lovesong is one of my favourite songs, and usually the song where my son would fall asleep enough for me to put him in his bed)

I have wanted to read this book for quite some time, so popped down to the local bookstore (yaaaaaaay local small business!) and bought it today. Because I don't have enough to do, thesis? Because I don't have enough to do, thesis? What thesis? Anyways, I've often wondered what the world would be like if we all just vanished. I spend alot of time in the wilderness, but true, untouched wilderness is getting harder and harder to find. This book illustrates how nature would rebound if we, for some reason, cease to exist. The big revelation is, as one Amazon.com reviewer aptly wrote: The best of what we've done wouldn't survive while most of the worst of our work will. A sobering thought. Ancient societies left wonderous ruins, our society will leave metal, toxic chemicals, and plastic. Hmmmm. Maybe we should do something about it....

Climate change writing can be a tad bit doom-n-gloom (HA! its VERY doom and gloom) so Turner's book is a nice change of pace. Is it enough to solve the problem? Not likely. Probably a better xmas gift than some of the other ones, unless you like to make your gift recipients cry. In that case, just stick with one of the sad ones.

Ah, Canadian cinema. There's just something so personal and homemade about it. Many English-Canadians find it unwatchable, sadly. Many English-Canadians find it unwatchable, sadly. Bruce McDonald is something of a maverick filmmaker and manages to make cool Canadian films like Hard Core Logo and Highway 61. The basic story is a small-town barber (Don McKellar) and a smuggler (Valerie Buhagiar) strap a corpse to the roof of a 63 Ford Galaxy and drive from northern Ontario done to New Orleans. It's the middle film in McDonald's road trip trilogy (the other two being Roadkill and Hard Core Logo) so their journey is chockful of oddities and bizarreness. Did I mention they were being chased by the devil?
