The Boondock Saints

The Boondock Saints

Not only an all star cast, but a true classic for the ages.

  • With Paul Giamatti as himself, this one is sure to be amazing. I mean, at the least, interesting. It's what happens when he decided to remove his soul.

I was freaking out over it, then never heard anything else about. Apparently it had a limited release and has now been on DVD for some time. It's the story of a grown man who visits his parents, and refuses to leave. The New York Times calls it "Independent film defined." I've got to see this one.

  • Wait. What?! I've still been waiting for this to come out on DVD. Clearly I've missed a beat or something, either way, if you're putting Zooey Deschanel, Paul Dano and John Goodman in a film, I'm going to like it.

  • Admittedly over played and a victim of comedic cliche. However, when I saw this movie in the theater, on opening day, it was by far the funniest movie experience I have ever had.

  • For me, this was the first Cohen Brothers film I saw. In no questionable way, it transformed me into a lifetime fan. And, even though it was made over 20 years ago, it remains one of the funniest films I've ever seen.

In no uncertain terms, this album and this family band is an absolute trip. If you ever get the opportunity to see them live the daughter will play the drums, the dad will play some sort of keyboard contraption and the mother will just put slides up on an old school projector and it'll probably be the coolest show you've seen (it was for me).

Screenwriters rarely develop a distinctive voice that can be recognized from movie to movie, but the ornate imagination of Charlie Kaufman (Being John Malkovich, Adaptation) has made him a unique and much-needed cinematic presence. In Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, a guy decides to have the memories of his ex-girlfriend erased after she's had him erased from her own memory--but midway through the procedure, he changes his mind and struggles to hang on to their experiences together. In other hands, the premise of memory-erasing would become a trashy science-fiction thriller; Kaufman, along with director Michel Gondry, spins this idea into a funny, sad, structurally complex, and simply enthralling love story that juggles morality, identity, and heartbreak with confident skill. The entire cast--Jim Carrey, Kate Winslet, Kirsten Dunst, Elijah Wood, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Wilkinson, and more--give superb performances, carefully pitched so that cleverness never trumps feeling. A great movie. --Bret Fetzer

This is a hilarious movie, written by and starring Jeff Daniels, about huntin' camp in the Upper Penninsula of Michigan. He plays the "buckless yooper" who is ridiculed by his family and small town, and must get a buck before he becomes the oldest man in his family never to have shot a deer. Now I have to warn you, if you have never heard of or have been to deer camp, you probably won't get it and won't like it. But if you're from the rural Midwest or enjoy hunting, you will get a huge kick out of this movie. Plus you'll get to enjoy the beautiful scenery of my home state. :)
