True, there is a LOT of crap out there, but that doesn't change the fact that this movie is brilliant. Basically, it tells the story of this guy Tony Wilson and how he made Manchester the center of music in the seventies. It is build like a documentary and it's entertaining as hell! Tony Wilson makes so many smart, sarcastic side comments, you can't but smirk most of the time. You get a pretty good idea on the atmosphere of the time, not to mention on the musical scene. Joy Division, The sex pistols, New Order, Happy Mondays.....just to name a few. It's definetly worth watching! (and yes, I jumped up and down like an idiot when they showed Janie Jones from the Clash for miserable 5 seconds).

It was one of 2005's most critically acclaimed films, and won the Camera D'or for Best First Film at Cannes. Say if Diablo Cody had not only written Juno, but directed and starred in it as well, you'd be coming close to Me and You and Everyone We Know territory. Miranda July, who wrote, directed and stars as Christine, who falls in love with Richard (John Hawkes), a divorcing father and shoe salesman. How do hopeless people fall in love when they're hopeless? Watch this and find out. It's quietly confident, sunny, sweet and quirky, much in the vein of Juno but without the insanely hip dialogue. It's sweet central love story is tempered by some very audacious moments involving sex, but it's got so much charm it's hardly offensive enough to matter. Oh and ))<>((.

A fascinating documentary about the rise and fall of the Brit Pop music moment of the 90s. It may have barely made a blip in North America (I still cannot believe that Oasis is only known as "That Wonderwall band", but the genre made a lasting impact in the UK with much of the modern music being made there owes a huge debt to the bands of BritPop. Live Forever takes it's name from the Oasis song and certainly asks and answers the question "Where were you while we were getting high?" With compelling interviews from some of the major players such as Blur's Damon Albarn, Pulp's Jarvis Cocker and Oasis's brothers Gallagher who come across as bitter, depressed and as cocksure as ever, in that order. Live Forever sheds a light on the things in the background of the media-propelled musical genre of Brit Pop. Certainly fascinating and not just to those like me, who were and are fans.

Please ignore the marketing on the DVD cover and any references to Spinal Tap, this is NOT the punk-rock Spinal Tap. OK, it's a very funny movie and shot in the fake documentary style, but it's not irreverant or satirical and definitely not a comedy. Followed by a film crew, an aging and defunct punk band reunites for one last Western Canada tour and hopefully last hurrah. Director Bruce McDonald is a master of the "Canadian road trip" flick and with Hard Core Logo combines it with Canada's underground punk music scene. Real life rock band frontman of The Headstones Hugh Dillon lends credibility to his role as Hard Core Logo's frontman Joe Dick. (Now an award-winning actor, this role was one of Dillon's first.) Charismatic and handsome Callum Keith Rennie plays Dick's childhood friend Billy Tallent, who has been slated to join a much more successful rock band after this final Hard Core Logo tour. Troubled bass player John Oxenburger (John Pyper-Ferguson) gradually loses hold of his sanity and then there's the buffoonish drummer (aren't they all?) Pipefitter, perhaps the most well-adjusted of them all. It's a gritty, funny, poignant film and as quintessentially cool Canadian as you can get. A must-see! You won't soon forget Hard Core Logo's final shot, I promise you. 4 guys - 5 nights - 3000 miles - 764 gallons of gas - 987 bottles of beer - 3457 cigarettes - 1 last shot

A chilling, amusing and near perfect film with enough quirks and foibles to give the audience a sense of otherworldiness. Film noir set in a rural part of the country and the hero is a very pregnant, tough-as-nails cop. Who else but the Coen Brothers could come up with something like this? I grew up pretty close to North Dakota, just over the border in Saskatchewan. So much about Fargo hit home for me when I first saw it. Saskatchewan winters are just like this, and while the accents where I come from aren't quite as distinctive, they're still very similar.

This is one of the best fictional films made on the subject. Set in London and centred around an American (Elijah Wood) who gets drawn into the world of the Green Street Elite - West Ham United's firm, by his sister's charismatic brother-in-law (Charlie Hunnan). The hooligan culture is fascinating with its levels of loyalty, comraderie, identity and passion and this film does a good job of capturing more than the media ever did at the height of the hooligan culture in the UK during the 80s and 90s.

  • Such a classic from the 80's...can't really say anymore than that...well I can. It was revolutionary and was a tremendous story. Harrison Ford was obviously amazing.
