The World's Fastest Indian (2005)

At this point, you already know that you have to watch anything that Anthony Hopkins is in. I don't know how he can play so many different characters in so many different movies so well while not really changing the character from movie to movie, but it works for me. This movie is a meandering, mostly heartwarming tale based on the real-life adventures of a New Zealand tinkerer. I hadn't read any of the history behind the story so it was fairly suspenseful.

  • Audrey Heburn was amazing, no doubt about it. She has a look and a style that is all her own. This collection has it all including my favorites, Roman Holiday and Breakfast at Tiffany's."

Its really good about family and sticking together. Also, there are two nice bonuses: you get to one of the early perfomances of Barbara Bel Geddes, thats Ms. Ellie from Dallas to you and me. Not to mention Ellen Corby she play the cantakerous grandma on The Waltons.

Lured by their dreams of fame and fortune three ambitious young women enter the world of show business and discover how easy it is to sink into a celebrity nightmare of ego alcohol and 'pills' - the beloved "dolls." A prim New Englander (Barbara Parkins) unexpectedly skyrockets from her job as secretary in a talent agency to a glamorous TV model. A determined singer (Patty Duke) finds that Hollywood success can also spell self-destruction. Mary Tyler Moore blew me away with her performance as the distant, cold-hearted mother in this movie. Knowing her only as the buoyant Mary of "The Mary Tyler Moore Show", I was even more chilled by her character's inability to connect with anyone but herself. And although Timothy Hutton's struggles are primarily psychological, he makes them almost tangible through his vibrant and honest portrayal of a young man who has lost sight of what he wants from life . . . and if he really wants to live.

Joe Gillis (William Holden), bankrupt screenwriter, hides from car repossessors in the garage of a deserted-looking mansion which proves to be the grotesque home of Norma Desmond (Gloria Swanson), retired silent screen star. Joe takes refuge there, with a nominal job of rewriting Norma's hopeless 'comeback' screenplay. Weeks pass; feeling more and more like a kept man, Joe grasps at reality in the form of a clandestine friendship with script reader Betty Schaefer, but it's too late... This movie won 3 Oscars, had another 13 wins an 13 nominations... So who can argue with that? It is a great, great movie (10 stars out of 10)

It's not a syrupy Hillary Duff chick flick. Every year we watch this movie on a really cold rainy day with lots of (spiked) hot chocolate and yummy food to keep us going. This movie is good, good, GOOD. It's epic like they just don't do epic anymore. You won't believe how unbelieveably cool Clark Gable is - and Vivian Leigh is both a complete basket case and total bad a##.
