Chicken Run DVD

Chicken Run DVD

Though Chicken Run is a bit of a let down for true Wallace and Grommet fans, it still stands up during the fowl-based holidays as good, albeit dark, seasonal family entertainment. What? Don't tell me your family didn't watch animated movies about the animals it was going to eat!

  • This is a great film, an even greater book. Some of the best lines ever!

Of course you have Cusack who is a one of those guys you just can't help but adore. The film is about love and music, two things that breath life into everything. Taken from the book by Nick Hornby and directed by Stephen Frears so really with all these brilliant minds on one project, how can you go wrong?

This, the sophomore film from Kevin Smith is when he was still in his "making really hilarious films" mode. In a delightfully distasteful and half witted manner, Kevin Smith manages to take completely undignified characters and glorify them, as if they would actually be likable in real life. They wouldn't, but this film is one to love.

It was one of 2005's most critically acclaimed films, and won the Camera D'or for Best First Film at Cannes. Say if Diablo Cody had not only written Juno, but directed and starred in it as well, you'd be coming close to Me and You and Everyone We Know territory. Miranda July, who wrote, directed and stars as Christine, who falls in love with Richard (John Hawkes), a divorcing father and shoe salesman. How do hopeless people fall in love when they're hopeless? Watch this and find out. It's quietly confident, sunny, sweet and quirky, much in the vein of Juno but without the insanely hip dialogue. It's sweet central love story is tempered by some very audacious moments involving sex, but it's got so much charm it's hardly offensive enough to matter. Oh and ))<>((.

A must-see for fans of funny movies! A by-the-books, overachieving London cop is "promoted" to the seemingly sleepy English countryside by colleagues who feel threatened by his work ethic. Starring the wonderful pair of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost as the rural cop he is partnered with, Hot Fuzz is a wickedly funny, bang-on satire/homage of the buddy-flick (ie. Lethal Weapon, Bad Boys). If you've seen Pegg, Frost and director, Edgar Wright's previous film, Shaun of the Dead, you'll love Hot Fuzz. It's hilarious, extremely clever and the type of film you'll want to watch over and over again just to catch everything.

A chilling, amusing and near perfect film with enough quirks and foibles to give the audience a sense of otherworldiness. Film noir set in a rural part of the country and the hero is a very pregnant, tough-as-nails cop. Who else but the Coen Brothers could come up with something like this? I grew up pretty close to North Dakota, just over the border in Saskatchewan. So much about Fargo hit home for me when I first saw it. Saskatchewan winters are just like this, and while the accents where I come from aren't quite as distinctive, they're still very similar.
