Superstar Car Wash: Goo Goo Dolls

Superstar Car Wash: Goo Goo Dolls

Most people know the Goo Goo Dolls for the ballads, popular on "adult alternative" stations. And while that may or may not be your cup of tea, most people don't realize that they started off wanting to be just like the Replacements. Some of their really early stuff is pretty raw, but right about the early 90s they hit a sweet spot between that and the commercial singles they became known for. This album captures some really great kinda indie songs. Open to close, this is a strong garage-rock album. Worth checking out regardless of how you feel about their more recent ventures.

Well, somewhere along the mix, this FLips mid-nineties album didn't get a proper nod. I mean, it's not my favorite of theirs, but it's still probably better than everything else you're listening to.

  • A great indie album. There was a lesser debut before this, but when Electra picked the album up, it became their major label debut. A good solid album of mid 90s indie rock.

This was my absolute favorite album when it came out. And now looking back, it really does still hold up really well. "My Sharona" is such a fun song, then there's a Lisa Leob song, U2, Juliana Hatfield, Crowded House, Lenny Kravitz, Dinosaur Jr. and Squeeze. It was the first time I heard U2, and I didn't even know how cool half the bands were at the time. Great, great album.
