If you ever get the opportunity to see them live the daughter will play the drums, the dad will play some sort of keyboard contraption and the mother will just put slides up on an old school projector and it'll probably be the coolest show you've seen (it was for me).

To be honest, I had almost forgotten about Beirut. I'm not really sure how because this was one of my favorite albums of '06 and he is completely amazing. Indie folk, pop lovers will all appreciate this one.

The beauty of Mason Proper is that their albums always seem to be one cohesive piece even though each song is definitely its own. The understanding of complex musical nuances is very apparent - the theme of each song is known to the listener even before you grasp what the lyrics are about. Although I like their previous album, There is a Moth in your Chest, just as well, there is an obvious progression in maturity, structure, and cohesiveness on this album. It is very melodic and at times, quite dark... just take a chance and buy this one! If you'd like to sample them with a few single iTunes, I'd try "In the Mirror," "Dragging the River," or "Alone." You will NOT regret picking this album up, or supporting such a talented, friendly group of guys.

Chan marshal is one of the few people i'd ever permit to doing cover albums. It's not very surprising, but her unique voice brought a fresh and fun perspective to already awesome songs.

We all love Punch Drunk Love. If you don't, then you've either never seen it or you have no taste in movies. Like everything Job Brion touches, it turns to gold (at least in my mind). This is no exception.

When it comes to film scores, Jon Brion is the all powerful, the all knowledgeable, the Yoda, the Mr. Miyagi, the no one does it better than him guy. Have I convinced you yet? This is a must have.

I hadn't heard anything quite like their mix of blues and good old fashioned rock and roll before. It grabbed me with the opening guitar screech and wouldn't let go.

i can't believe i forgot to review this before. sexy and a little creepy, this album was my #1 lp of 2006 by a mile. so far in front it almost won again in 2007. "wolf like me" was one of the early leaks, and that jangling, galloping beat is just addictive. you can't help it--it's like "i wanna be your dog" in that way. god, i could probably write a thousand more words on this album, but i won't--just go watch the "wolf like me' on youtube and thank me (and the other people who rec'd this) later.

Great suggary pop album. Yes, it's a bit on the darker side, but it's hilarious. Personally, I'm a fan of cute-dark things.
