The Boondock Saints

The Boondock Saints

Not only an all star cast, but a true classic for the ages.

  • With Paul Giamatti as himself, this one is sure to be amazing. I mean, at the least, interesting. It's what happens when he decided to remove his soul.

  • I'll assume that any Alec Baldwin indie flick is worth he time. Plus, I'm interested in seeing if the ounger Culkin siblings got any game.

I was freaking out over it, then never heard anything else about. Apparently it had a limited release and has now been on DVD for some time. It's the story of a grown man who visits his parents, and refuses to leave. The New York Times calls it "Independent film defined." I've got to see this one.

  • I have to admit I was pretty stumped throughout this movie until quite a ways in. Clever writing that kept me interested. Very bizarre, surreal and all around trippy, good movie.

  • It's part horror and entirely comedic. This indie film revolves around a a killer who wears a paper bag to hide his/her identity. However, it becomes an endearing story about the the flawed lives and relationships.

Screenwriters rarely develop a distinctive voice that can be recognized from movie to movie, but the ornate imagination of Charlie Kaufman (Being John Malkovich, Adaptation) has made him a unique and much-needed cinematic presence. In Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, a guy decides to have the memories of his ex-girlfriend erased after she's had him erased from her own memory--but midway through the procedure, he changes his mind and struggles to hang on to their experiences together. In other hands, the premise of memory-erasing would become a trashy science-fiction thriller; Kaufman, along with director Michel Gondry, spins this idea into a funny, sad, structurally complex, and simply enthralling love story that juggles morality, identity, and heartbreak with confident skill. The entire cast--Jim Carrey, Kate Winslet, Kirsten Dunst, Elijah Wood, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Wilkinson, and more--give superb performances, carefully pitched so that cleverness never trumps feeling. A great movie. --Bret Fetzer

He hasn't slept in a full year and is on the edge of madness. Which doesn't go over well when you're working with heavy machinery. Needless to say, strange things begin to happen and he can't discern who's real and who's a hallucination. Can you?
