Across The Universe [Deluxe Edition] Soundtrack

Sweet soundtrack, very sing-a-long-able

  • Have you seen this miniature gem of a film yet? If you answered yes, you already know why this soundtrack is awesome. I'd be shocked if you said no, but if you did -- check out the move, then by this album.

  • Duh, this movie is ancient history now. The soundtrack, had little traction past the initial hype anyways. However, I think it does deserve a nod. I mean, it really is a collection of 19 really fun songs.

  • I LOVED this CD and this movie. I think this was Leo's best movie I don't care what anyone else has to say. Also Claire Danes is beautiful in this movie.

So, I was glued to the screen when I watched this movie. I listened to every note of every song and watched every step of each dance. It is my punk rock ballerina dream-come-true. And the music is phenomenal.

This movie included music from a collection of artists (Aretha Franklin aside) that I might not otherwise have had the pleasure of listening to . . . and that would be a crying shame. So, I ain't too proud to admit that I don't know much about Smoky Robinson or Procol Harum, but I do like their music.

This was the first time I ever heard the Shins, and Iron & Wine and it was a it of an awakening. There's also great songs from Nick Drake, Theivery Corporation, Simon and Garfunkel, on there as well. Terrifically compiled, full of little gems of songs.

Although my personal story is very different, I well relate to the struggles of a single Mom trying to reinvent her life and provide solid footing for her child simultaneously. But it is the music that really gets me where I live. After listening to one or two songs, I find myself in search of a partner to teach me the two step . . . and hoping that one day I really will find him.

I'm MAD about this soundtrack. This infact was the first CD I had ever purchased back in good ol' 1995 and still pop in every so often to bring me back to memories of childhood vacations. in 1995 I saw this film on a class trip and instantly fell in love with the melodies. Now as an adult I have come to appreciate more of the relaxing instrumentals and Sting's wonderful interpretation of the sea. This soundtrack is so serene and very enjoyable during long summer nights.

John Cusack's character, in the midst of yet another break-up, begins reviewing all of his previous relationships in light of the songs that characterized each one of them. In effect, the soundtrack itself becomes a character in the movie. Each and every song is a unique look at love, up to and including Jack Black's hysterical rendition of "Let's Get It On". Now that the movie has become a play you can choose the original soundtrack or the original cast recording of the soundtrack. Got that?

Although iTunes does carry a version of this soundtrack, I much prefer the sound of the original. Including songs by The Goo Goo Dolls, U2, Jimi Hendrix and Alanis Morissette, the soundtrack also features a few classical arrangements by Gabriel Yared. Listened to as a whole, the effect of the soundtrack is as moving as the movie itself.

  • Interesting, sort-of atmospheric soundtrack written by The Edge. Very mellow overall, but with one song sung by Sinead O'Connor, which must have been the theme song.

It has a smoky, jazz feel to it, which is great for quiet late nights. Includes some U2 songs, some original and some not. There's also a duet with Bono and Daniel Lanois, which is great, and my personal favorite "Dancing Shoes", which is just Bono, but his voice is unbelievable. I do recommend you skip the "Satellite of Love" cover, as the vocals are distorted to the extreme and I find it unpleasant. Otherwise though it's a great, totally mellow album.

This movie made being a music geek cool for me. With songs by the Gin Blossoms, The Cranberries, Better than Ezra, Toad the Wet Sprocket, and Cracker just to name a few, this is a kick-ass compilation if you're into 90s music. With the incredibly catchy "Sugarhigh" as the albums capping track.

This was my absolute favorite album when it came out. And now looking back, it really does still hold up really well. "My Sharona" is such a fun song, then there's a Lisa Leob song, U2, Juliana Hatfield, Crowded House, Lenny Kravitz, Dinosaur Jr. and Squeeze. It was the first time I heard U2, and I didn't even know how cool half the bands were at the time. Great, great album.

It's guaranteed to put me in a good mood. Danny Elfman's songs are great, they fit the action perfectly, don't seem forced in, and are really terribly catchy. The special edition has other artists covering some of the more major songs. Personally, I think Fionna Apple's "Sally's Song" is the one that's really worth the money, but Marylin Manson, Fall Out Boy, She Wants Revenge, and Panic! at the Disco.

You've got the cruisiers with the "nasty" stuff! : ) If you remember greasers in school or John Travolta in Grease -- this movie soundtrack will make you smile, hum and dance. One of my absolute favorite albums. This modest early '80s hit film about a fictional '60s rock icon who mysteriously disappears (or does he?) took its lead from similar legends surrounding the death of Jim Morrison. Its succesful soundtrack arose from an even more surreal brew of art and commerce. Then-journeyman musician John Cafferty and his Beaver Brown Band essentially became the, er, "real" Eddie and the Cruisers, with actor Michael Pare lip-synching the vocals, and other actors miming their parts. Cafferty and crew supply what was then a fair approximation of the Springsteen Sensibility--wall-of-sound bar rock with overreaching lyrics and grab-your-throat vocals.
