I have to confess: I didn't become a Metallica fan until I started dating my current boyfriend. He loves them, and I guess it's rubbed off on me. My own complaint? My favorite doom metal band from Austin, TX has released their second album "God of the Earth." It's pretty hard rockin' but I don't know if I've grown to appreciate it as much as their first album.

This is fifth (and most successful) album and it is one of their best. "Slice of Your Pie," the title track, "Sticky Sweet", "She Goes Down", "Don't Go Away Mad" and most especially "Kickstart My Heart" are real standouts and that says a lot considering the original CD is only 11 tracks long!

The album was put out when Pantera was transitioning from a glam rock image (they used to be a hair metal band) to a full on hardcore metal band. The reason I like this CD so much is because it is that transition that prevents them from being too over the top with the metalness while not wearing spandex and prissying out . "Shattered", the title track, "Psycho Holiday " and "Domination."

Diamond Head was slated to be the next Zeppelin and rightfully so, these guys had the talent, the youth and the writing skills to be rock n' roll legends. Unfortunately bad record distribution, ill advised artistic direction, line up changes and bad timing (amongst other things) killed this band's career. This album is their first and best album; every song on this CD is unforgettable. Fortunately this story isn't too tragic; both Metallica and Megadeth idolize this band (they influenced both bands successful careers) and have taken them on tour. Metallica consistently plays their songs live and have laid four of their tracks down on their multi-platinum selling albums. LOVE this CD, a must buy for any heavy metal/hardrock fan!

This one came out a year after volume 1 and is sold separately. It still kicks serious ass. Has a lot of rarities as well as all the hits.
