White Chalk ~ PJ Harvey
I missed out on the first half of PJ Harvey's carrier, you know--all that raw guitar, and emotion, and Nick Cave, and NYC, and leg licking, yeah I missed out on all that, sept for one wet make-out session featuring PJ Harvey as the soundtrack, ok maybe that's too much information, anyway I wanted to say something about "White Chalk". Ah, well... "White Chalk" may be my chance to join the cult of Harvey. "White Chalk" is classic in the way most Francois Hardy, Scott Walker and Nico recordings are classic, it's an intimate collection which seems to exist within it's own realm. I'm drawn to the music as it strokes the melancholic and romantic side of melody, but you see I'm one of those who is attracted to the sound of pianos generating introspective atmosphere, fog shrouded streets, nocturnes, and rainy day moods. ah, still more info than you need to know...

Quality, quality album. The best thing about K-Os is his range of musical abilities, from singing, to rapping, to playing multiple instruments. Not your ordinary hip-hop album, Atlantis is upbeat, fresh, and funky.

Back when I liked Ben Folds, this was easily my favorite album. Instead of him and the band. This was just the dude and his piano. Chan marshal is one of the few people i'd ever permit to doing cover albums. It's not very surprising, but her unique voice brought a fresh and fun perspective to already awesome songs.

Irish violinist Fionnuala Sherry and Norwegian pianist Rolf Lovland first hit it big by winning the EuroVision contest with songs on this CD. Their music is a little bit new-age, but not quite; there are some beautiful classical sounds and themes as well, with instruments like cellos, horns and flute all seeing use. It is very difficult not to like this CD. It's extremely relaxing at times, and at others, sublimely beautiful. Every song is well done and interesting, but here are some of my favorites: -Nocturne - beautiful vocals, beautiful violin -Song from a Secret Garden - Extraordinarily touching. Sheer beauty. Some of the most heartfelt violin and piano playing I have heard. -Papillion -Heartstrings -Adagio - Classical excellence boiled down to a short, touching song. -Ode to Simplicity - SImple piano that brings this song to heigts otherwise unreachable. They've gone on to produce even more genre-defying titles, incorporating Celtic and Irish folk-music themes into their compositions, as well as more modern, heartfelt voice solos. I urge you to check out at least 'Song from a Secret Garden'. It's truly a work of art.

"Discord" is a touchstone for a kind of alch... "Discord" is a touchstone for a kind of alchemy that only a rare talent enters into, I'd describe it as Jazz abstraction, classical minimalism, or digital acoustic theory. What ever "Discord" might be classified as I feel it should be simply classified as a breakthrough piece.
