Velvet Revolver - Contraband
I was a little apprehensive when I heard that three ex-Guns N' Roses members (Matt Sorum, Duff McKagan and Slash) were teaming up with an 90's alt-rock icon (Scott Weiland; ex-Stone Temple Pilots). I despise anything grunge/alternative/lame and STP was definitely on my radar of bands that needed to be destroyed. However Contraband was a good fit of 80's hard rocking-ness with a 21st century edge. It sounds a little corporate and a little forced the first couple of listens but once you give it a little breathing room it is actually a really, really solid album. Sucker Train Blues, Slither, Fall to Pieces, Big Machine, Spectacle and Set Me Free were the best on the CD.

Judy also inspired me to start a Meetup group for mom's (and dad's) who love rock music in my area! I might not have a band, but Judy inspired me to stay true to who I am at heart (a huge music fan) and to try and incorporate that into being a mom! A great read!

Weezer's Blue Album is easily in my top 10 of all time, which explains why Rivers Cuomo is nearing god-like status in my book. I guess, I'm easily biased. However, this is truly a good album (unlike much of the newest Weezer).

I'm not ovely familier with the manys works of the Kinks. However, I'm certain that this isn't their usual cup of tea. It's low key and awesome. You'll recognize some of it from Darjeeling Limited.

Rilo Kiley was one of my favorite bands. This was an excellent side project of Jenny Lewis... folksy with a bit of a southern twang, I particularly loved the cover of "handle with care" on this album.

Since there are so many great songs that come off of this album it is hard to pick a select few but "Good Time Boys", "Higher Ground", "Subway to Venus", "Magic Johnson", "Punk Rock Classic" , "Stone Cold Bush" and most especially "Sexy Mexican Maid" are really memorable. LISTEN TO THIS ALBUM!

"Slice of Your Pie," the title track, "Sticky Sweet", "She Goes Down", "Don't Go Away Mad" and most especially "Kickstart My Heart" are real standouts and that says a lot considering the original CD is only 11 tracks long!

The album was put out when Pantera was transitioning from a glam rock image (they used to be a hair metal band) to a full on hardcore metal band. The reason I like this CD so much is because it is that transition that prevents them from being too over the top with the metalness while not wearing spandex and prissying out . "Shattered", the title track, "Psycho Holiday " and "Domination."

Velvet Revolver didn't come out as strong on there second effort but it's still a good try. I haven't heard the whole CD but "Let it Roll" stood out as a pretty good track.
