The Sound of Music (Five Star Collection)
It might be easier to come up with a list of reasons NOT to love The Sound of Music than to come up with a list of reasons to love it. I mean, what's not to love about this movie? It's got it all: a guitar-playing heroine who can make clothing out of old drapes, children who sing and then march off to bed, and a dreamy-eyed hero. Just in case we're limited as to how long we can blather on in these reviews, I'm going to tell you the thing I love most about this movie: the scene in the Pavillion. Sigh. I don't want to spoil the moment for the three people on the planet who haven't seen the movie, heard about the movie, or read about the movie yet, so I'm not going to say anything more except this: everyone should own a copy of this movie (even die-hard cynics -- especially die-hard cynics), because it's a classic, feel-good movie. Enough said.

Another upbeat singer/rapper/hip-hop artist to kick off the summer. "ABC's" and "Bang Bang feat. Adam Levine" shine on this album and are definitely worth downloading. His lyrics are deep and almost poetic.

Quality, quality album. The best thing about K-Os is his range of musical abilities, from singing, to rapping, to playing multiple instruments. Not your ordinary hip-hop album, Atlantis is upbeat, fresh, and funky.

Couldn't figure out how I hadn't seen any reviews of it. Recently did a theater version, so it's a tale dear to my heart. It's a timeless family story. A musical but well-timed. Classic!

At the centre of the tale is the American Sally Bowles (Liza Minnelli), her lover Brian (Michael York) and the nightclub's Master of Ceremonies played by the scene-stealing Joel Grey. As the economic, social and political situation in Germany deteriorates, the gang at the Kit Kat Club try to distract their patrons and themselves from what is happening. Cabaret won 8 Academy Awards in 1972. The songs are absolute classics and performed with the perfect amount of emotion, glee and sensuality, the costumes are dramatic and its easy to forget that this was made in the early 70s. A love song to the decadent side to Berlin, it's a truly remarkable film.

I didn't think David Bowie's Space Oddity could get any weirder until I heard it sung by a group of 7 years olds. This is definitely worth listening to. Go to iTunes and listen to Desperado to get a sampling of this oddity.

i used to live in a remote part of maine where we didn't even have reception to get the basic channels on our television. this was also the days when VCR's had just been invented. i would come home every day in third grade and wat... i used to live in a remote part of maine where we didn't even have reception to get the basic channels on our television. this was also the days when VCR's had just been invented. i would come home every day in third grade and watch this movie because it was one of three movies we had on video. i could watch this movie over and over again, it never gets old to me! it's one of the best musicals EVER made and one of the highlights of gene kelly's career. i fell in love with gene and his singing and dancing and i wanted to dress up in all the fabulous clothes the women wore in the film. it's truly a superb movie and great for all ages!
