Although one may be sympatheitc to Hoffman's cause you can't help but cringe at how his personnal struggles (including drug addiction) at times overshadowed and diminished his activism. But hey, nobodys perfect. Abbie Hoffamn is definately a figure in American history people should know about.

When they turn 16, they go through a period called 'Rumspringa' where they get indulge in the outside world in order to decide whether they want to remain in the church as adults. Pretty cool, huh? Rather than coercing kids through fear they allow them the freedom to experience and choose. Unfortunately, many of the kids go overboard (some even becoming drug addicts), however they demonstrate a kind of calm lucidity and mature rationalization of their circumstances for being, afterall, American teens. Its really interesting.

In my opinion, this is Kevin Costner's best movie. It's a classic crime film with everything you'd expect and want: organized crime, gangsters, cops and people getting whacked.
