The graphic goodness of an iPhone with the extreme productivity of a BlackBerry. Whether it is watching videos on the gorgeous screen or taming the hundreds of emails you get a day, this phone is great. The display is so clear that I often find myself preferring to read my email on my Bold than on my PC. The web browser is significantly better than previous versions.

  • I love the style of this headset. In functions relatively well. Mine tends to pick up a lot of wind feedback. But I have had a very good experience so far.

The play/pause buttons come particularly handy as the default iPhone earbuds do not have this feature. The earphones have a sound value that opens when the volume falls below 40 decibels, meaning that it allows you to hear more ambient sound. When the volume is turned up above this threshold, the valve closes. This is particularly useful because you don't have to take off the headphones to hear outside sound; you merely need to turn down the volume.

It may not be quite as pretty as the iPhone, but has GPS and a higher quality camera. Like the iPhone, it has wi-fi in addition to traditional cellular networking. It's nice to see the price coming down (it used to be $700-$800). You can get an unlocked version from Amazon.

Compared to my beloved treo 650, it trades the 650's touch screen for wifi. I'm convinced that any navigation that involves the treo's touch screen is about five times slower than using the ubiquitous rocker button interface, so that doesn't seem like much of a loss. And the wifi is a huge gain! It's much smaller than the treo. The screen is lower resolution, but the quality seemed on par with the treo 650. Of course it does run Windows Mobile rather than PalmOS. The main reasons I'm afraid of Windows Mobile are: I would have to re-purchase all the apps I already own on PalmOS; I'd have to migrate all my calendar, contact, etc data from the treo; I don't know how well Windows Mobile syncs with linux. I haven't heard great things about Windows Mobile in general, but then PalmOS is nothing to write home about either. It's benefited from nothing but the most cosmetic updates over the past 10 years. They seem to be in the same position Apple was in 2000. If they can successfully make the leap to Access Linux Platform (analogous to Apple's OSX), they might stay ahead of Microsoft. But it looks to me like Palm is currently focusing on new hardware rather than overhauling their aging OS.

Today, I'm an E61 convert, and I'm not afraid. Afraid of what? Have you ever made a decision NOT to make an important call out of fear that your Treo would suddenly lock up on you? Oh c'mon...you know you have. Since switching to the E61 with Cingular (bought independently), I have experienced exactly ZERO phone malfunctions. And I'm still running with Good Technology. Buy this phone and except for the stupidity of limiting one's speed dials to 10 entries, this phone will make you very happy. If you are a photo freak, don't...there's no camera.
