Mille Bornes Collectors Edition
This is one of those classic card games that I'd always heard about and never played until recently. I love it!!! I hate that it took me so long to discover it for myself. Mille Bornes is French for "1,000 Milestones" or 1,000 miles. The game is set up like a road race - complete with distance cards, hazards, remedys (for the hazards) and safety cards. The goal is to be the first to play exactly 1,000 miles during a hand. No more, no less. It looked daunting to learn, but was really very simple. I highly recommend it. It can be played by 2, 3, 4 or 6 people. When played by 4 or 6, it's played in teams of 2. These cards feature the original 1962 artwork.

What can I say? I've been a big fan since "you're so gay" and she really can't do any wrong for me - even if she has sold out a bit. California Gurlz, while catchy, is far from the highlight of this album.

My housie was once obsessed with this game. German made, the object is to manage and build cities and roads and such. Trust me, the allure comes much more once you play, which is why this game has won multiple awards

The deck is a beautiful assortment of ocean-themed cards. To start, the dealer deals the cards face up until all four suits are showing. This spread of cards is called The Tide, and it serves as a map of the hand. One of the cool things about Rowboat is hand variation. Hands can be anywhere from 4 to 12 cards in size, depending on when the 4th suit appears. Players then receive the same number of cards that are in the tide. Based on the cards in their hand, players bid on how well they intend to do. This is the most exciting aspect of the game, as getting your bid exactly right can be a nail-biting experience. If you overbid, the penalty is severe. If you underbid, a minor penalty is received. Be careful, though, underbidding too much can get you into big trouble. Play consists of navigating your way through The Tide with the cards in your hand. Rowboat incorporates Trump suits, and trump changes from trick to trick. This is where intense strategy and planning come into play. Once you get the hang of it (it takes about 15 minutes to learn the nuts and bolts), Rowboat is loads of fun!
