The Idiot - Iggy Pop

The Idiot - Iggy Pop

This CD is the birth of goth rock! You would not think that Iggy (and David Bowie his collaborator on this CD) would be the godfather of goth, but IMO he is. This CD is so moody and just so amazing! It is a classic. On a sad trivia note, this is the album that was on the turntable when Ian Curtis (the singer for Joy Division) hung himself.

One of the most subversive cover designs I've come across. Iggy, is a rebel, he's kind of dangerous, when you listen to Iggy, you never know what will happen to you--sex, excess, convolutions, and what about the photo on the cover, I can only imagine what was happening below the neck line. Anyway. I'm sure it's a good collection, but don't blame me if you wind up naked in some strange place with a phone number written across your dizzy forehead--buddy.

At first I thought it was going to be a bit more loud, the typical garage-sound to it, but that wasn't the case. The lyrics are pretty raw and some of them just straight fowardly painfull (just listen to "Turn blue", goddamn that shit is heavy), you just kind of fall in love with the whole sincerity of it. There are no cover ups, no bullshit, just him and his music. (Note: Bowie collaborated on the album and you can definetly hear it!)

From Sweden and with a cast of guests that's kickass, from Mad Cobra, to Iggy Pop, via Neneh Cherry. Seriously infectious, you'll find yourself rockin' out to it in your car on a warm summer's day. Definitely a nice day mix, and the songs cover such a range that it doesn't get old anytime fast. (P.S. They actually perform live in those bear heads. How crazy is that?!)
