This particular design has a silicone lid that securely attaches to the cup. The outside is matte and the inside is glazed. I prefer a version that Starbucks put out a few months ago. Their version is pretty much the same, but the outside is glazed (and of course has their logo) and the lid is plastic with a silicone liner to keep liquids sealed in. The key difference between the two is the price. "I Am Not A Paper Cup" is roughly $20 and the Starbucks version is $12. The upsides to either is that if you are a daily coffee drinker, you don't have to trash a paper cup and plastic lid every time you get take-out coffee. The downside is that both of them hold about 8 oz. - not favorable if you normally order a "grande" at Starbucks. Another issue for commuters is that it is not spill-proof or splash-proof. And finally, the Starbucks version CANNOT go into the microwave.

Cellfood is one of those products you'll be skeptical about at first, but wonder why you ever questioned once you've used it. I first started using Cellfood because it had been recommended by several doctors in detox and nutrition books I have read. It is an oxygen based product which slowly delivers oxygens to cells and also releases minerals, metabolic enzymes, amino acids and electrolytes. This benefits energy levels and boosts the immune system. The concentrate also restores acidic pH, which is important to detoxification and healing functions in the body. I have to say, since using this product I have not been sick nearly as much, and my energy levels are much higher. It's relatively affordable, and very safe to use (no harmful fillers). It's worth a try.

Now that temps are silly stupid cold and the roads are often coated with ice and snow, tire pressure has become a pretty big deal to me. Yes, I know I need a life. I believe I've covered that in other recs. Anyway, the other day as I was at the local station's air machine freezing my fingers off because I'd forgotten my gloves, I realized I'd forgotten to buy a new tire gauge for use in my warm garage. Then I went home and promptly forgot. Again. Today a friend asked me to do a quick online search while he was at the mall for one and I came across THESE BEAUTIES! Who needs a gauge? Just cast a glance at your wheels and you'll see either a red or green ring depending upon whether or not your tires are at the correct pressure. Lovely stuff! Available in different psi's. A few different stores have them for the difference of a few bucks. And since proper tire pressure really does save you money at the pump, this is a great resolution to put on the New Year's list!

I have no idea if this is any good but god, I just love the title. Editorial Reviews From Publishers Weekly Many cultures equate meat-eating with virility, and in some societies women offer men the "best" (i.e., bloodiest) food at the expense of their own nutritional needs. Building upon these observations, feminist activist Adams detects intimate links between the slaughter of animals and violence directed against women. She ties the prevalence of a carnivorous diet to patriarchal attitudes, such as the idea that the end justifies the means, and the objectification of others. In Frankenstein , Mary Shelley made her Creature a vegetarian, a point Adams relates to the Romantics' radical politics and to visionary novels by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, Dorothy Bryant and others. Adams, who teaches at Perkins School of Theology, Dallas, sketches the alliance of vegetarianism and feminism in antivivisection activism, the suffrage movement and 20th-century pacifism. Her original, provocative book makes a major contribution to the debate on animal rights. Copyright 1989 Reed Business Information, Inc. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title. From Library Journal Writer/activist/university lecturer Adams's important and provocative work compares myths about meat-eating with myths about manliness; and explores the literary, scientific, and social connections between meat-eating, male dominance, and war. Drawing on such diverse sources as butchering texts, cookbooks, Victorian "hygiene" manuals, and Alice Walker, the author provides a compelling case for inextricably linking feminist and vegetarian theory. This book is likely to both inspire and enrage readers across the political spectrum: we learn, for example, that veal was served at Gloria Steinem's 50th birthday, as well as of the atrocities of the slaughterhouse. One wishes Adams had been more careful about documenting some of her claims--her contention, for instance, that early humans were entirely vegetarian, requires scholarly support. Nevertheless this is recommended for both public and academic collections. - Beverly Miller, Boise State Univ. Lib., Id.
