Which doesn't adequately explain any of our fabulous misadventures growing up. Jon Scieszka (author of "The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales") has a really good excuse: five brothers. Quite generously and with great humor, he shares much of his childhood guts and glory in this novella. Fair warning: this is the kind of material that will make you laugh out loud, involuntarily and repeatedly. Most fun I have ever had while reading this past decade.

I'm not sure why I always see Ferrero Rocher chocolates in the Tray of Togetherness, but my guess it has something to do with the gold wrappers being associated with wealth or fortune. Anyway, I find them to be one of my favorite... Powdered sugar for my holiday cookies? No, Bianca, I think I'll pass....." I'll be honest. When it comes to advent calendars... well.... I'm a whore. Yes. I'm an advent calendar whore. I can't help it! It's not so much about the countdown for me as it is about all the little nooks and crannies and boxes and pouches containing treasures. I don't care if they're cheap, tacky, ridiculous treasures. The anticipation is delicious. "Yay, it's a new day! I wonder what piece of crap I get today?" I have been heard to trill as I leap and bound (well, roll and waddle) down the stairs every morning. (The fact that I am the only adult in the house and the one who restocked last season's calendar, and thus am in possession of the Crap 411 ie "What's Inside the Boxes," is something I choose to ignore. That's why I check early in the morning, before caffeine.) I love this one in particular because it has so many non-advent calendar usages. From creative party food display (fill the boxes with truffles or hors d'oeuvres, leaving some doors open so that people can see what's inside, and set it on the buffet), to a jewelry box (if you're very organized you can print up a list of what numbers correspond to which pieces and attach it to the back) or come up with a game (trivia or Memory perhaps?) to play at an event. Fun fashion pictures from the 80's (neon, jelly shoes, Aqua Net) that you print in pairs can go behind doors for a Memory-type game. Or type up baby questions or naughty sex truth-or-dare questions for a baby or bridal shower. How about putting a New Year's resolution or lifehack idea into each compartment and opening one a week in 2009? Or favorite quotes/relationship advice for an amazing wedding present? Whatever. It's all good. Or so says the whore.

A must have for any party...Fondue...it's not only delicious it's also fun to eat! * Here's a recipe from the book: Servings: Makes 2 1/2 cups Ingredients: • 1 pound red Cheshire or sharp Cheddar, grated • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour • 1 cup English or Scottish ale • 1 teaspoon kosher salt Directions: Toss the cheese with the flour in a bowl and set aside. In a fondue pot, add the ale and salt and bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Decrease the heat to medium-low and add the cheese mixture, 1/2 cup at a time, stirring until melted after each addition. Serve Immediately. Serve With: Irish soda bread cubes • toasted whole grain and rustic bread cubes • assorted crackers • apple chunks • pear chunks • cooked British bangers (sausages), cut into bite-sized chunks • boiled red or Yukon gold potatoes

I would much rather eat whatever I want, whenever I want and work it off as I must. Still, I found the Abs Diet plan intriguing. You know how it goes, a friend at work told me about a guy she knew who lost a lot of weight using the Abs Diet. Before I knew it a group of guys from work were doing it. When they each lost 20-30 pounds I was hooked. I picked up the Women's version of the book and read it from cover to cover. Everything in there is honest to goodness truth. no miracle work, no starving yourself, just applying principles you already know to your daily routine. I tried it for 2 weeks and lost 10 lbs (and 9 inches). THe plan is fairly simple and its was created by a Men's Health editor, the secret is to boost your metabolism and let your body do the work for you. I'm gonna give it a go again after New Years and thought maybe I could interest a few others to jump on the bandwagon with me. What do you say?

"Ghost World" is the comic books which the movies was based on. What I loved about this particular comic book the way Dan Clowes captured the emotional tone which is present for many who's internal and external life lingers in the in between.

Then we went outside with a magnifying glass and caught snowflakes on the sleeves of our jackets and looked at them. I think at on... Then we went outside with a magnifying glass and caught snowflakes on the sleeves of our jackets and looked at them. I think at one point we even got out a teaching microscope and took a look at some too. This calendar is full of photomicrographs of snowflakes, so even if global warming decreases your chances of getting to look at snowflakes this winter, you can see some six-fold crystals.
