Simon Birch

Simon Birch

Sometimes comic, sometimes sad - about Simon, a boy who can't grow and his friend Joe, who lives with his single mother. Ashley Judd as Joe's mother befriends Simon and dies tragically when Simon's foul ball hits her on her head. Her character arouses sympathy, and I developed a girl-crush on Ashley Judd that continues to this day. Jim Carrey has a brief cameo as the grown-up Joe.

  • This movie is not the best romantic comedy but it is nonetheless pretty adorable. I recommend eating popcorn, it'll make the movie a tad more enjoyable.

  • Filmed predominately in Arkansas by Arkansas girl, Joey Lauren Adams. Joey Lauren Adams wrote the part of Lucy for herself, but gave the part to Ashley Judd when she decided she would be unable to direct the film and star in it.
