Meditation I Earrings
Though I also design and create jewelry, I am a big fan of the jewelry by artist Abby Horowitz. She creates such beautiful and colorful pieces. These earrings are just an example of her work. This top is just one example. Per the artist's description: "Do you see the negative space? Or the scrollwork? Does your eye move between them, not knowing where to rest? The design for this top was inspired by certain Polynesian and Maori tattoos, where both the positive and negative space tell a story. To make this pattern, I sketched in the ironwork scrolls and then used a maki-age shibori resist technique to bind the negative space around them. The maki-age creates the complex spider web effect around the scrolls. Then, I dyed the top deep brown, released the bindings, and overdyed it in orchid purple.
