  • OMG. I love Audi's. I drive an A3, was planning on buying an S4 this year, but there's a problem. The problem is the 2010 S5. Wow.

  • Beautiful shape, most slinky aluminum chassis, all wheel drive-- what more could you ask? Power! Your choice of V10 5.2L or V8 4.6L. The bigger is more expensive and fast, but makes the planet sadder quicker.

  • Saw this in Iron Man (Gwyneth Paltrow's character was driving it) and I couldn't take my eyes off it. Has the face of the hot R8 and the body of a more everyday sport coupe. 0-60 mph in 4.9 seconds.

It looks sharp, accelerates smartly even full of 500 pounds of humans, and is full of great gadgetry. I have to say, the coolest feature is the computer-controlled manual transmission. It has two clutches, so gear changes are completely seamless. But there are none of the fluid resistive losses of a regular, automatic slushbox. Best of all, it has the speed racer paddle shifters, just like a Ferrari. I test drove the A3 3.2 a while back and was underwhelmed at the performance for all that money. The 2.0 eschews the heavy quattro drivetrain and uses Audi's famously-torquey 2.0 turbo to make this car feel really peppy. And, while still expensive, it's at least somewhere close to the ballpark.

Better for the environment, yes, but no fun for me. When I go back home to Massachusetts, however, I get to speed around suburbia in this car, and I absolutely love it. It has a clean, simple design, powerful engine, luxurious interior, great sound system, all-wheel drive, phenomenal sound system, and is just a wonderful all-around car. It handles like a dream, but offers the cushiness you'd expect from a luxury vehicle.
