Patemm Pads

Patemm Pads

Don't have a lot of baggage? Wish I could say the same but the Patemm Pad is perfect for when a diaper bag is too much to handle. A large, round diaper changing pad with pockets to store diapers, wipes, creams and spare clothes. A must when you don't need to lug around a ton of bottles and other garbage. It's easy to fold and carry and generously sized.

I had found this baby carrier/wrap while searching for a gift for my friend and her fiance in preparation to welcome their baby into the world. "Magnolia Sunshine". I personally didn't love the name, but they are free spirits and so I felt that this sleepy wrap would be perfect for their progressive/hippie lifestyle and new child. The wrap can be used in a variety of ways allowing the child to be carried close to the chest, on the back, and in a variety of positions that make baby and parent feel secure and comfortable. From reading about this product, the testimonies on the website and all the pictures of happy customers(parents & children) was enough of a reason for me to get this for my friend and her new baby. I also liked that this product can grow with the child (up to 45lbs in some cases!) and also has versatility.

I use it even more now that my twins are older, and I no longer have to carry around the baby section of Target with me. It can carry a bottle (in an insulated pouch that is removable), diapers, a onesie, wipes, car keys, your wallet, make-up and still have room for other stuff. It carries more than it looks and is very comfortable to wear.

From their site: “Mooo!!! Baby wants milk. Baby gets milk. In a cow. Well, a cow bottle at least. Measuring marks, replacable nipple, hi-temperature plastic…all the things that you would expect from a baby bottle. But that’s not the point really, is it? Oh, and the top makes a great teething aid.”

This was invented by a new mom and dad who found themselves sleep-deprived and needing help to remember baby care details, such as when their baby last ate or napped. They tried charts and journals, but thought there had to be a better way. It has recently won the iParenting 2007 award as well as DadLabs Top 10 and JPMA Innovation award. This is a great gift for new parents or someone with two or more children and a new baby.

I have a 14 month old daughter and started showing her baby sign language when she was 9 months old after reading about how babies can use sign language to communicate before they can actually speak. The part of their brain that develops earlier controls motor skills and the speech part of the brain develops much later. My baby is less frustrated after learning over 12 signs so far from the two DVD set of Baby Signing Time.

Check it out...it is a great alternative to a booster seat. It is spring-loaded and attaches to most chairs to raise the chair and not the child. This seems so much more safe than the booster seats that fit on top of a chair...those always seem to slide around...it will be available mid-August, but you can pre-order one on the Kaboost site. Their site is great too...great graphics and very clean and easy to navigate.

In the beginning when your child is newborn you will need room to pack several outfits, a couple of bottles, maybe some formula and a few blankets. That's no problem with this bag, plus it fits over the stoller bars nicely and comes witha changin pad to keep your little one off of the filthy changing tables when you're out and about. As your child gets older this bag is great for road trips and overnight stays. If you have two children, no worries this bag has plenty of room for everything you need. There are mesh pouches on each side of the interior. I keep my sons diapers on one side and my daughter's on the other. A bag of large refill wipes in the middle and still have room for 4 bottles, a small can of formula, a couple outfits, medicine-etc, my cell phone and my keys. They will even monogram it for you if you like. The price is unbeatable too.

They kind of feel like my "babies" because giving birth to each of these babies is truly a labor of love -- with equal emphasis on "labor" and "love." (I just about drive myself and my family crazy during each "book pregnancy.") There are American and Canadian editions of these books -- this series page @ Amazon.com only lists the US editions, but a quick search at Amazon.ca will pull up the Canadian editions instead. And this page doesn't list the two new books in the spin-off "The Mother of All Solutions" series: Sleep Solutions for Your Baby, Toddler, and Preschooler and Mealtime Solutions for Your Baby, Toddler, and Preschooler -- I guess because they're in a separate series. The books wouldn't be here at all if it weren't for the hundreds of parents who served on the research panels for the books over the years, providing input on what moms (and dads) really want to know about pregnancy, babies, toddlers, and parenting. I owe them a huge debt of gratitude.

You can quickly develop a case of cabin fever if you feel like you're trapped in the sleep-deprivation zone 24/7." While you don't want your child to miss his naps all the time, sometimes getting to your mom's group one afternoon a week is such an important pick-me-up for you that you're willing to deal with any temporary fallout from your child's disrupted nap schedule. See this part of the article: "Don't forget about mothering the new mother -- a tried-and-true tradition in many cultures. If mother-adrenaline has your friend spinning like a top, try to convince her to take a warm bath and catch up on her sleep. She needs to conserve her energy. Motherhood is a marathon, not a sprint event." My comment: Sometimes people forget all about the new mother in all the excitement about the new baby. A new mom needs practical and emotional support during this exciting but overwhelming time in her life.
