Good Housekeeping Illustrated Book of Desserts
No celebrity chefs here, no clever prose, just tons of desserts and plenty of photos. This book has been around for quite a while, but it never seems to get the star billing it deserves on the shelves of bookstores. Again, I suspect because it has no FoodTV personality behind it to back it up. What it does have is The Good Housekeeping seal, which anyone whose been cooking for a while can tell you, means something. These recipes have been tested over and over and over and are extremely reliable. While this book covers the basics, there are some very unique and creative desserts here which you will want most certainly want to try after seeing all the pictures.

I bought this last year for my mermaid-obsessed daughter and she still uses it many months later. Personally, I think they could have been a teeny bit more creative with the recipes but the ones they do have are lovely.

Not a whole lot of pictures (just a few in the center), but some good recipes for homestyle, but bakery quality, sweets - carrot cake, coconut cake, chocolate chip cookies, and doughnuts!
