To be honest, I had almost forgotten about Beirut. I'm not really sure how because this was one of my favorite albums of '06 and he is completely amazing. Indie folk, pop lovers will all appreciate this one.

Another fine album by Hot Hot Heat. When I recommended their other album, I mentioned it reminded me of raccoons going through garbage cans. With this album, it's bears. Naughty bears. For a long time I really loathed the mere mention of R.E.M. Then I realized when this album came out in '92 I was 14 and too young to appreciate it. Then I realized when this album came out in '92 I was 14 and too young to appreciate it. As I got older, the R.E.M. that was blaring in my ears were songs like Losing My Religion (which I still don't like). Now that I'm older I can revisit this album and truly appreciate it for songs like: Sweetness Follows Star Me Kitten Try Not to Breathe I do like Everybody Hurts but unfortunately its beaten over our heads, ears, and eyes. Thank MTV. Great album all around.

Chan marshal is one of the few people i'd ever permit to doing cover albums. It's not very surprising, but her unique voice brought a fresh and fun perspective to already awesome songs.

i can't believe i forgot to review this before. sexy and a little creepy, this album was my #1 lp of 2006 by a mile. so far in front it almost won again in 2007. "wolf like me" was one of the early leaks, and that jangling, galloping beat is just addictive. you can't help it--it's like "i wanna be your dog" in that way. god, i could probably write a thousand more words on this album, but i won't--just go watch the "wolf like me' on youtube and thank me (and the other people who rec'd this) later.

Employing some really great comrades in legendary African drummer Tony Allen, ex-Clash bassist Paul Simonon, and the Verve's guitarist Simon Tong. Given the rhythm section, there definitely could have been stronger African influences, but it's still a really interesting album, with some great songs on it. And bully to him for getting Paul Simonon to come out of retirement!

Though I was allegedly a child of the 80s, I never got to enjoy it at its full glory. Listening to Chromeo makes me think I can do it all over again, but in a more modern way.
