Although "Lulu" fits in the tight sonic space Scott Walker cut into pop music, I like to think of "Lulu" as Opera, or a contemporary refection of that genre. On the other hand, "Lulu" could also be looked at as an audio book, which in someways is more exciting. Still I would love to see how "Lulu" might be translated for the stage or as a silent movie soundtrack.

I loved this movie, I'd love to see this as a weekly TV show (does anyone watch TV?) even if it's made in Brazil and I have to learn Portuguese it wouldn't matter, cause I'm sure it would be funny and amazing in what ever language... The Mael brothers now have a tribute album...well, sort of. The unofficial word is that they couldn't find enough people to participate in a tribute recording so they made one to themselves. Hard to believe, but maybe everyone but Jimmy Somerville was afraid to compete with Russell Mael's munchkin-on-helium vocals. So Sparks re-made their own songs, adding orchestration and turning up the camp to stratospheric heights, sounding like Kurt Weill on nitrous oxide. And yes,Erasure and Faith No More did contribute to this record, but what's particularly impressive about this collection is all the great songs that AREN'T here--enough to fill another tribute. And what about that beefcake cover photo? Is it realor is it Photoshop? You decide.

From the opening movements of "Dia Artio" (track one) though to the album's final track "Two Hunters" quickly crosses into sonic worlds belonging to neighboring music genres, and continues the crossing cloaked in many colors taken from Nordic song, shoegazer guitar, and contemporary composition. Wolves in the Throne Room are creating a familiar yet new facet in the process designing a gem like sound and what strikes me is that with each new music invention an epic sound-scape is born in the wake of it.
