Jennifer Hudson - “If this isn’t love” off the "Jennifer Hudson" album

Recovering from the tragic murders of her mother, brother, and cousin, Jennifer Hudson returns with a self-entitled album and a critically acclaimed single, "If This Isn't Love." Music reporter David Balls remarks "If This Isn't Love' is a delicate love song that finds Hudson in her natural comfort zone. 'God sent me an angel from above, that's going to love me for life,' she sings soulfully, with recent events making the lyrics particularly resonant. Combining modish beats with a cool, breezy chorus, 'If This Isn't Love' ...has an understated charm that's hard to quibble with." (Digitalspy.com) Listening to the song, I find myself an audience to Hudson's heart. Download it, and fall in love with her powerful voice too!

Jane Smith, a band from the South East of England, play a blend of beautifully crafted songs in a classic vein. Soulful and meaningful phrases and hooks set to melodies that stay in the head, Jane Smith’s official release date for this single (See The Truth) isn’t until September 20, 2010; but you can buy it on pre-release here! Otherwise you won’t be able to get your hands on this baby until later this month! If you like John Mayer, Bryan Adams, Train, David Gray, Dave Mathews Band, Coldplay, Stereophonics, Maroon Five, Incubus, The Black Keys, U2, The Fray or miss your fix of Phil Collins – you’re gonna LOVE this band! They recently beat out 123 other musicians to win one of the top 3 slots in the Whotune.com Singles competition. The band was formed by singer songwriter Nick Barclay, Kev Willison and Paul Bowman, joined by Kevin Powell on Bass and Nathan Ariss on Keyboards, and more recently featuring on guitar Ronnie Douglas. Jane Smith's sound is described as mature, thoughtful, inspiring, the songs of Nick Barclay and Kev Willison are performed by a stunning group of musicians who are bringing the Jane Smith sound alive. Nick is the driving force behind Jane Smith, a lyricist and songwriter whose music carries unashamedly positive influences with a unique voice that people have compared in quality to some of the great singers Steve Marriot, Paul Carrack , but as he says himself the voice and the songs making the connection with the audience is all that matters. Previously Nick was involved in dance music production but found that he missed the real songs and inspiration that comes with playing on the stage with fellow musicians. Jane Smith will be embarking on a short festival tour to promote their debut single "See The Truth" available to download at Whotune.com starting September 20th. - Quoted from Record Label Description

But I was very pleasantly surprised by this collection as each artist (all very skilled and true artists) made each track their own. They made them new again. The songs kept their original flavor, while bringing something new, whether it was singing in a different key, adding harmonies, adding riffs, or giving the song a new feel. My favorite was Kevon Edmonds' rendition of "Never Let You Down." It was so good, I think that might have to be my wedding song someday! Kem's rendering of "Golden Time of Day" sent chills down my spine. I loved the new feel added to Musiq's "Silky Soul" and "I Wanna Thank You" with The Clark Sisters. Raheem DeVaughn knocked me out with his vocals on "We Are One," and Ledisi proved why she is a true artist and a powerful singer on "Happy Feelins." Mint Condition, the only band on the LP, turned in a solid performance that paid tribute to the old while making it new, while Joe and Avant were smooth on their tracks. The only track I wasn't impressed with was Mary J. Blige's "Before I Let Go." That's a hard song to remake and have people accept, but Mary didn't even sound like she was trying. But the song is not unbearable. This CD was so good, I HAD to write a review!”– J Double U (Amazon.com Review)

Trained off the streets of Paris, Madeleine Peyroux reestablishes herself as a masterful musician and elegant singer with her album “Bare Bones.” I treasured her soothing tone, which flows effortlessly from song to song. I look forward to listening to the songs after Thanksgiving, so I can stay calm during the wild shopping season. The song “Bare Bones” has wonderful energy, not too hurried and not too slow, that I can work to for hours. And with all the work that goes into the holiday season, can you afford not to download this song?

Over the years they have released albums that were pretty good, but their latest CD has to be one of my favorites! The beauty about "Tangled Tales" is how harmonious the music flows together. It reminds me of the classic Dan Hicks and the Hot Licks, assembling country and blues' greats like David Grisman, Charlie Musselwhite, Roy Rogers, and Bruce Forman, and others! What is my pick of the bounty? Download "A Magician," and you'll see why I love it. His natural, folksy voice draws on the instruments and creates a musical experience you don't often see with today's artists. This song is one I will be holding onto for a long time.

Duffy is the singer shaking up the industry. I can't get enough of her voice, which is complex and earthy, highlighted by unusual soul for her age. “Mercy" does the British singer justice, mixing desire and fun into a track anyone can listen to and resonate with. Reviewer Amaranth "Music Fan" adds her "...ode to sexual liberation is as feisty as Dusty Springfield's "Son of a Preacher Man." She sings with gusto and passion. Duffy, with her retro sound, is an Amy Winehouse without the baggage. Her song is reminiscent of the '60s. One can imagine the bell bottoms, the psychedelia, and the Beatles in their heyday." (Amazon.com) I totally recommend you download this single, and even the album!
