BlackBerry Thunder 9500

BlackBerry Thunder 9500

You can't buy one yet. Rumors say that it will work on Verizon network in the U.S. and Vodafone in Europe, and it will feature a touchscreen, just like iPhone. So if you'd like to have a touchscreen phone, but don't want to switch to AT&T, or just don't like Apple that much - BlackBerry 9500 could be the phone for you. Once it's out. If it's out. And no, the image above is not real.

Sure, we all eye the iPhone with envious eyes, but there's life yet in the BlackBerry brand. The new Tour (stupidest...choice...for a promotional...product name...tie-in...ever) boasts everything you've come to love and expect from your CrackBerry (ROCKS email, calenders, messaging) with extra features and a new, easier to use OS. Some highlights: -3.2 Megapixel Camera/Video Recorder WITH flash Real crisp images, nice flash, real fast. -Built in Quad-Band GSM for Global coverage Comes with a Verizon or Sprint SIM card, but you can use your own - New, polished, faster OS 4.7 (I think) is a big step up from my old Pearl. Smooth navigation, one button app switching for multi-tasking mojo, easier settings and memory management, simpler sound profiles, improved Messenger, faster browser with simple HTML view and one button Google/Wikipedia/Dictionary.com searching, built in BlackBerry App store.... -256 MB's Device Memory Yes, the iPhone has gigabytes, but apps take up 0.5-3 MB's, tops. PLENTY of space to have all my apps installed and to download and try out new ones. -Unlocked, stand-along GPS Freakin' finally! Google Maps finds me in no time at all, down to the meter. It also comes with a free 2 GB MicroSD card built in, and multiple outlet adaptors for your charger to fit your jet-set lifestyle. The screen is awesomely bright and clear, the keyboard is just the right mix of size, legibility and usefulness, and there's plenty of memory for downloading and trying out new apps. And now my friends, for the cons: -No WiFi. If you use it this is a glaring omission for a top of the line device, but otherwise, no big deal. -Screen Ripples. Pressing on the screen or hard on the buttons directly underneath it make a slight ripple effect on the display. It's minor and varies in sensitivity from handset to handset, but it is a bit of a defect. Everything is always legible and clear though. -Car Bluetooth Problems. Apparently the software has some bugs and people don't hear you so well if you try to use the phone with yrou car's bluetooth link. This is a pain but is expected to be fixed soon with a software update. -Stupid Micro USB charging port. Besides having to get a new car charger, it's placed awkwardly on the left bottom side. Just annoying to have to flip the phone around to plug it in sometimes... Other than some new release bugs, it's a great phone, and only $99 if you sign up for a new contract with Verizon (Who have the best coverage in NYC, IMHO and have pretty decent customer service). Great little multitasking, world conquering sidekick! P.S. FashionKitty, you're a traitor to the cause. P.P.S I actually like the name Tour, it was just stupid to try to associate it with Bono.

Full coverage from bumps, shocks, scratches and wear while keeping a slim profile. I've tried other silicone skins for my Pearl but they fell off easily, were very thin (and thus didn't protect well) and didn't cover the whole phone. This case is the perfect solution. The silicone is the perfect thickness to provide drop/impact protection while adding minimal, almost unnoticeable bulk to the phone. The keys are just as useable as without the case, if not more so due to the grip of the material. All icons and letters are reproduced perfectly. The camera is exposed cleanly, as well as the microphone, speaker, headphone jack, charging port (important!), LED indicator light, lanyard hole and memory card door. The convenience keys have ridges and are raised. The volume buttons are raised but lack ridges so they are easy to distinguish from each other. I was happy to find an included screen sticker that went on cleanly and left no bubbles or residue. There is an extra one included if you ever need to change it. They even throw in a little cloth (not sure if its microfiber but it's solid material) to clean it. Only two cons: 1.The screen stickers absorbs a bit of oil smudges but these are easily wiped off (very minor con). 2. The printing on the keyboard material is good, but when the backlight is on, the numbers in black fade slightly as the ink gets a little shone through. I've also noticed trace amounts of the black ink in the clear letters when the light is on. They just need to improve the black ink and the printing process (a bit of a con, only when backlight is on and letters are still pretty clear). Overall get this, you wont be disappointed. I really hope this company makes these same cases for future Blackberries. Available for most current BlackBerrys in Black, Red, Purple, and Silver, all with a cool carbon-fiber pattern.

The graphic goodness of an iPhone with the extreme productivity of a BlackBerry. Whether it is watching videos on the gorgeous screen or taming the hundreds of emails you get a day, this phone is great. The display is so clear that I often find myself preferring to read my email on my Bold than on my PC. The web browser is significantly better than previous versions.
