CARAN d'ACHE Neocolor II (crayons)
These crayons are well worth seeking out for a multitude of reasons: Firstly, they function as you would expect a crayon to do, with the difference being that they are water-soluble, which means that with a touch of water you can create painterly effects impossible to do with an ordinary crayon; basically, you get a crayon and a watercolor all in one beautiful package. Speaking of packages-- they come sensibly packed in well-constructed hinged metal tins, meaning that the crayons will always be tidy and well protected from breaking, The color options are outstanding; beautiful rich hues, and are available for purchase in tinned sets ranging from the most basic 10 crayon set to a remarkable set of 126 different shades. NOTE: The same company makes quality water-resistant crayons, too, if that's your bag... try 'em both for variety. AND, if you prefer to work with a finer point, be sure to check out their Prismalo and Classicolor Aquarelle water-soluble colored pencils. CARAN d'ACHE (the all-CAPS name is their doing, not mine) is a Swiss company so the box says "pastels", but fear not-- these are the crayons that you're looking for.
