Griffin & Sabine are pen pals and the book documents the strange and intriguing correspondence of Griffin and Sabine. And since each letter must be pulled from its own envelope, the reader has the delightful, forbidden sensation of reading someone else's mail. Griffin & Sabine is like no other illustrated novel: appealing to the poet and artist in everyone and sure to inspire a renaissance in the fine art of letter-writing, it tells an extraordinary story in an extraordinary way.

I had no idea who he was when I started reading Fables, the comic that he has drawn covers for since its beginning. But his style is undeniably unique and beautiful, and I saw it popping up everywhere I looked. He's now moving on to work soley on his personal work, but you can snap up some of his illustrations in this postcard book. And at $9.95, you can afford to buy one to keep for yourself, and one to send to all your friends who love good art.

  • As a designer, I had a great time with this. Naturally, the content and design of the book itself do justice to the subject matter. A beautiful presentation of this crazy and fascinating world.

I'm going to own up to the fact that I'm not a visual artist: I know what I like, but my artist-friend teases me with a comment I made on her self-portrait. Which was, "It looks Greek." But when I do decide to invest in some oil paints and wake up that half of my brain, this book will be a great beginning. Goes into everything, but not in a scary way. The important bits about choosing a palette and a brush, and etceteras, are right near the top, and there's all kinds of suggestions on how to break the rules thereafter. As well as projects to learn on, if the thought of blowing your materials budget on a total screw-up scares the...paint out of you.

I was walking down that little alleyway--you know, if you walk from the Metreon to Market Street, between Third and Fourth street, and manage to resist Beard Papa's? I guess the cross-street is Mission, but it's more toward Market than that. There's a little bitty museum there, and they had this in the window. Certainly justified, as it was the Museum of Craft and Folk Art, and this book is full of artists getting their craft on. I'm a creative person and I like making gifts for people; but I am so not a fan of decorated Kleenex cozies. The ideas in here were much, much better.

  • A stylish book containing 24 distinctive pull-out notecards with 24 matching envelopes, all bound together in a tidy and clever case. Fabulous!
