I was drawn to this piece the first time I seen it. Musta been the witches that drew me in ;) It took me forever to even find another one like it in order to even find out the story line behind this mysterious yet awesome jar. The scene on this 1966 Canister Cookie Jar has imagery from a Scottish poem called, 'Tam O' Shanter', which was written by Robert Burns in 1790. You can find this ghoulish poem here: http://www.robertburns.org.uk/Assets/Poems_Songs/tamoshanter.htm This image is a celebration in a tavern with drinking and great merriment. As the piece is rotated, a mounted horseman is in full gallop toward a wooden foot bridge. With a look of terror on his face the horseman is looking backward to see two flying witchs directly behind him with one holding his horse by the tail. No Cracks, but there is some small nicks in the glaze around the bottom base of this jar, and one on the top handle of the lid. There is also slight crazing to the lid due to its age but that is normal. With the lid this Jar is approx. 9" tall, and and 7" wide. This Canister Cookie Jar in present condition retails for about 95.00. I am offering it for only $70.00. It is an American Bisque donkey or horse pulling a milk wagon, and marked on the side "Cookies & Milk". There is also a cute little black cat on the lid as well. This cookie jar is in great shape for its age. It does have a hairline firing crack along the back side which is shown in the third picture, but I noticed that during my research that this is very common with this particular cookie jar by American Bisque. In fact every single one I have seen or came across which is not many at all have firing cracks of some sort. Other than that one minor flaw there is no nicks, or chips at all! This cookie jar is valued between 100.00 - 150.00. I am offering it to you for only 85.00! This cookie jar is going to make a wonderful gift for all vintage lovers, donkey, or horse lovers, even cat lovers. Cookie jar is in wonderful condition with minor and minimal crazing. The coloring is wonderful, and does not really show any signs of wear to the color at all that I can really see. This piece is Marked USA 740 at the bottom near the hoof. I got the best picture I could of the Molding mark which is shown in the last photograph. It is approx. 8" tall, 13.25" long and 6.25 wide. This particular cookie jar is pretty heavy too. ♥ FYI! ♥ Shipping is Based off like Products sold and shipped. On the bottom of the base it has 0272 USA. The USA is smaller in size compared to the number 0272 there for my camera would not pick it up very well. My zoom made the picture fuzzy which is why that picture is not included. These cookie jars came in brown, yellow and tan colors with cold paint decorations. The tan and yellow colors are harder to find. This lovely piece is in Great condition. I did a full examination and found NO chips, nicks, or cracks. The cold paint that they used on the Eyes, Nose, and Mouth has worn off over the years. It Measures approx. 10 1/2" tall by 8" wide. Estimated Value on the Tan McCoy #0272 Thinking Hound dog with worn or no cold paint remaining is $30.00-$50.00 depending on its condition. Since I need to get rid of a large amount of cookie jars, I am pricing this one at the low end of its value. ____________________________________________________________ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: I am helping one of my Local neighbors by selling her cookie jar collection. This is a lovely unmarked 1950s Doranne Of California Green Sheep Dog Cookie Jar. Measures approx. 10 1/2" x 10 1/2" There is one small chip which is at the bottom by the base, located near the tail. Chip is shown in last picture. Not noticeable when placed on your counter. Some typical crazing but normal with its age. Your item will be packed securely to ensure no breakage occurs with bubble wrap, peanuts, and recycled shredded paper. Shipping cost is based on glass I have previously shipped, and packaging materials. Info On Doranne Of California: The factory was first opened in 1951, in Los Angeles during the golden years of cookie jar manufacturing. It operated for 40 years, producing its own molds and distinctive designs. Most common among these was animal cookie jars. For the unmarked pieces an indicator of a Doranne jar is the ocher, green and brown glazes that they seemed to favor. You can usually identify Doranne of California cookie jars by the company's distinctive mark. Most jars include the letters "CJ" with one, two or three digits following, and often this was followed by the letters "USA". For instance "CJ46 USA". Sometimes the jars were just marked with the "USA". Since the company produced a mass quantity, of a large variety of Items during the 50s this caused for many unmarked pieces. Valued $25.00-$35.00 Shipping is calculated on other cookie Jars Sold thru Ebay.

There is 4 Crazing marks under the glaze but is normal for its age. Measures approx. 10 1/2" tall X 9" wide. THIS IS NOT THE REPRODUCTION MADE IN JAPAN! I have not been able to find out which company produced this jar as it is unmarked. I am marking this lovely Cookie Jar as rare as I cannot seem to locate another in its exact design. The only ones I am finding is the Reproductions. There is several of these jars that was made in the 1940s-1950s in Japan. They are engraved JAPAN on the bottom. The last picture I provided for you is one from Japan. you can see the differences from this one and the reproduction. These are the differences between the two. The eyes on this jar is different from the eyes on the reproduction. The Reproduction also has blue and yellow in them as well, and this monkey does not. Plus of course they are engraved with Japan and there is no makers mark on this piece. A lot of the American made company's during this time period did not always mark their pieces. I am assuming this piece is from the 1930s-1940s Prior to Japans Reproduction. The Reproduction vintage sailor monkeys are currently going for $50.00 So dont miss out on this rare and lovely original piece. ____________________________________________________________ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: I am helping one of my Local neighbors by selling her cookie jar collection.
