I try to see this movie at least once a year, as I grow older Brazil seems to make more and more sense - it is prophetic, and gives a great sense of perspective about the absurdities of our bizarre social norms. Personally, I think this is one of De Niro's most endearing roles...he's so NOT De Niro, but my absolute favorite perormance/character/message in the whole film is Katherine Helmond's (a la Who's The Boss) role as Ms. Ida Lowry. This movie is a classic for sure, and so very very Beep.

The movie is full with imagination, fantasy, love and passion. If you're the one only care about reality, I guess you won't like it.

In the film world, people freak out about the blue lens flare achieved in this movie. To me, it has one of my favorite scenes of any movie, of all time. That is, the silhouette scene -- beautiful. And though Anderson does expand his horizons in terms of retro-special effects and a whimsical use of color, fans will otherwise find themselves in well-charted waters. As The Life Aquatic opens, Zissou (Bill Murray), a self-involved, Jacques Cousteau-like filmmaker, has just released a documentary depicting the death of his best friend Esteban, who was eaten by some sort of sea creature--possibly a jaguar shark. Zissou’s troubles also include his waning popularity with the public, and a nemesis (Jeff Goldblum) who hogs up all the grant money. Hope arrives in the form of Ned Plimpton (Owen Wilson), an amiable Kentuckian who may be Zissou’s son. Despite his lack of enthusiasm for fatherhood, Zissou welcomes Ned--and Ned in turn saves Zissou’s new documentary (in which he seeks revenge on the jaguar shark) in more ways than one. One of Wes Anderson’s greatest achievements as a director to date has been launching the autumnal melancholy phase of Bill Murray’s career, starting with Rushmore in 1998, and Murray delivers a similarly comedic yet low-key performance here.

I've had the privilege of seeing a sneak peek of David Lynch's INLAND EMPIRE (yes, all caps.) I'm still sorting out what I think about the movie. The fact that I need to points that this is definitely a Lynch movie, in all fashion... I've had the privilege of seeing a sneak peek of David Lynch's INLAND EMPIRE (yes, all caps.) I'm still sorting out what I think about the movie. The fact that I need to points that this is definitely a Lynch movie, in all fashions. I've heard comparisons between Mulholland and INLAND but feel that doing so will set the audiences expectations at the same level. INLAND EMPIRE is an entirely different experience. In retrospect, Mulholland looks like Disneyland to me with it's bright colors and sunshiney Naomi. INLAND is every color of gray you can imagine. It's a dark film, literally. Color seems very muted and reflects the heaviness of the content. Dialogue is slow but meaningfull. Laura Dern is brilliant. The music is incredible and I actually got the chills a few times from some scene/music combos. And I love the ending. I'm not going to lie, three hours is a long time but if you go and sit and let it wash over you you won't be disappointed. Be warned this film makes you work for it. Most likely after viewing you will walk away and say Huh?" much like after Mulholland. And much like Mulholland, after a repeat viewing things start to click into place. Enjoy!

Joe takes refuge there, with a nominal job of rewriting Norma's hopeless 'comeback' screenplay. Weeks pass; feeling more and more like a kept man, Joe grasps at reality in the form of a clandestine friendship with script reader Betty Schaefer, but it's too late... This movie won 3 Oscars, had another 13 wins an 13 nominations... So who can argue with that? It is a great, great movie (10 stars out of 10)
