I have this book and I really enjoy it. It's very informative. I think it might be slightly difficult for someone with no sewing experience to follow a few of the directions but otherwise it's a fabulous book. However, I guess with sewing I find it easier to be shown technique in person rather than by trying to understand steps in a book. I've only partially finished the skirt pattern but my unfinished work shows that her patterns are easily translated into great clothing even when a novice is doing the stitching.

When I was 6 or so I dreamed of sleeping in a hammock suspended between trees and surrounded by fragrant flowers.. in my room. I don't know why- now that I'm older- I haven't made some of those over the top desires into a reality. That idea still sounds pretty cool (well maybe not the hammock part) and now I've got the know-how and no one to shake their finger and tell me no (to be fair my parents weren't finger shakers and may not have said no if I had asked). The RISD students featured here are doing it up large- this book will be a perfect inspiration. Oh- and Amy Sedaris writes the intro :D.

From the Princeton Architectural Press description of Blackstock's Collections: The Drawings of An Artistic Savant, by Gregory L. Blackstock: "Gregory L. Blackstock, a retired Seattle pot washer, draws order out of all the chaos with a pencil, a black marker, and some crayons. Blackstock is autistic and an artistic savant. He creates visual lists of everything from wasps to hats to emergency vehicles to noisemakers. In the spirit of the Outsider art of Henry Darger and Howard Finster, Blackstock makes art that is stirring in its profusion and detail and inspiring in its simple beauty."
