Whether you just want to eat sliced apples or are baking a pie, this this makes the work fun. I promise that one try and you'll be making crisps and pies just as an excuse to play with this! It happens every time I use it in front of a friend. Advice: get this version with the suction base. The clamp version s not as sturdy, I've found. And not all tables can accommodate the clamp. I know it seems silly to buy a kitchen gadget that only serves one purpose and for which a knife can do the job. But this makes life so much easier, and it's FUN! It is worth every penny! You can also use it to peel and slice potatoes.

If you haven't succumbed to the widespread paranoia about carrying a pocket knife with you every day, you understand that a dull knife is a useless and even dangerous tool. Even though pocket knives might seem quaint or from a bygone era, they are very useful every day carry tools and I recommend everyone carry one. I'm old enough to remember the days when you could open consumer products without scissors, straight blades or chainsaws. Try opening a cd or a blister pack without pneumatic shears and you'll know what I'm talking about. Pocket knives can be used for opening many packages, taking the staples out of things, cutting through tape, scraping leftover sticker gunk off stuff, or even cutting an orange. I use mine every day and when it is sharp it is a joy to use. The Lansky sharpener is a clever kit that takes a minute or two to set up; this is it's one flaw. Once you've got it set up,it is very good at sharpening small pocket knife blades that are too little for kitchen knife sharpeners. It uses a series of diamond stones and a lubricant with an guide that keep the blade angle just right. It is foolproof to use and works very well on little blades which is why I have one. It works well on larger blades too but the electric sharpeners are quicker for kitchen knives and the Razor Edge System beats any system out there for putting a true razor's edge on any blade. I like my Lansky, it is readily available and fairly priced. Get yourself one of these kits and start carrying a pocketknife. You won't have to worry about finding scissors every time you want to open something or cutting your arteries when you want to listen to a cd. Pocket knives are cool tools!

They hack at vegetables, tear at the thin skins of tomatoes, and rip their way through meats with dull tools. A sharp knife is a pleasure to use and makes cooking easier and more fun. This electric sharpener is a quick and simple way to keep your kitchen knives reasonably sharp. (If you want a truly sharp knife, look at my recommendation for the Razor Edge System.) Don't get me wrong, this sharpener works well and will give you a good cutting edge in about one minute which means you will leave it out on your counter and use it every week or two. Most modern knives are rust proof because they are made from special hard steels. This makes them a little more difficult to sharpen well. The Chef's choice works well with modern steels. All you do is turn the thing on and run your knife through the little slots a couple of times. Usually, you use just the last two slots. Takes about a minute. This is so easy you'll use it a lot more often than a manual system and your knives will cut much better. I've got several knife sharpening systems at home and keep this one on my kitchen counter for regular use. It's a well-made and handy tool.
