Lansky Universal Knife Sharpening System
If you haven't succumbed to the widespread paranoia about carrying a pocket knife with you every day, you understand that a dull knife is a useless and even dangerous tool. Even though pocket knives might seem quaint or from a bygone era, they are very useful every day carry tools and I recommend everyone carry one. I'm old enough to remember the days when you could open consumer products without scissors, straight blades or chainsaws. Try opening a cd or a blister pack without pneumatic shears and you'll know what I'm talking about. Pocket knives can be used for opening many packages, taking the staples out of things, cutting through tape, scraping leftover sticker gunk off stuff, or even cutting an orange. I use mine every day and when it is sharp it is a joy to use. The Lansky sharpener is a clever kit that takes a minute or two to set up; this is it's one flaw. Once you've got it set up,it is very good at sharpening small pocket knife blades that are too little for kitchen knife sharpeners. It uses a series of diamond stones and a lubricant with an guide that keep the blade angle just right. It is foolproof to use and works very well on little blades which is why I have one. It works well on larger blades too but the electric sharpeners are quicker for kitchen knives and the Razor Edge System beats any system out there for putting a true razor's edge on any blade. I like my Lansky, it is readily available and fairly priced. Get yourself one of these kits and start carrying a pocketknife. You won't have to worry about finding scissors every time you want to open something or cutting your arteries when you want to listen to a cd. Pocket knives are cool tools!
