Canon Powershot SD770 IS Digital Camera Kit
The Canon Powershot SD770 is a good camera for everyday pictures. This kit is an awesome find because it comes with the 1 gig SD memory card so you can take hundreds of pictures, an extra battery so you don't have to worry about it going dead in the middle of a good time, a camera case, and a tripod (which probably makes it a lot easier to take self-portraits than my method).

Starting with it's 8MP for great blow ups, with face detection your subjects will always be in focus, 4x optical zoom to bring the action up close, low light technology and image stabilizer rounds out just a few of the highlights. I remember when camera's with these features were 4 times the size!

As far as digital SLRs go this one it the tops. I love it because it provide amazing photos in the prosumer price range. This is the best digital camera I ever owned and I have had several brands over the years. I started with the earlier version, the SD1000 which I purchased in November 2007 just before a river barge trip in France. I recently upgraded to the SD1100 which has motion stabilization and gave my SD1000 to my daughter. This camera is so easy to use, you don't even need the manual! It also takes great pictures with the default settings. It is small enough to throw into you pocket and carry it around. It takes a standard SD memory card and if you upgrade to a larger size memory card - like 1-4 GB, you can take a lot of fantastic videos. I have found this camera to take great videos in even poor lighting conditions. I took it to Ireland in April this year along with my laptop and it was great to be able to pop out the SD memory card from the camera, slide it into my laptop's card reader, and email pictures and video back to family in the states. I cannot say enough about how great this camera is. Most local stores sell it for around $250 but I found it on amazon.com for $207 with free shipping, so that is how I bought mine. I give it 5 out of 5 stars.

Be sure to get lots of close-ups on flowers, insects, and other things in nature--things that look the same even though every photographer insists on continuously taking pictures of them... or take pictures of yourself doing something that's not that clever, but add a catchy caption to it.

A slightly lesser version of the XSi, I have a feeling the XS is going to be VERY attractive to A LOT of people (um, me) who are in the market for an SLR but are still choking on paying 800 dollars or more on a camera... though at 699, we're still talking about a chunk of change, it's enough of a savings that I think the price break will turn out to pull in the crowds (me). And the differences between the two cameras for most folks will seem almost nonexistent. Need I say yummy?
