The Children's Inn at NIH

I worked at NIH (the National Institutes of Health) in Maryland for three years. I volunteered at the Children's Inn for about a year and a half. The Children's Inn provides a place for pediatric patients and the families of pediatric patients to stay near the hospital. There are rooms for the families as well as shared kitchen spaces, a computer room, several toy and game rooms, and a small library. This lets the families of patients be with the family member who is receiving treatment, but not have to live in a hotel room, or drive miles to see the patient. Also, sharing space with other families lets people form a support network that might not otherwise exist. The Children's Inn is an important part of NIH and it is run entirely on donated funds. If you are interested in volunteering, donating money or donating goods, take a look at their website.
