a rock opera/play detailing the life of one Hedwig and his journey from boy to woman to man-woman and from broken to whole. the music is great, the story is marvelous, the colors/imagery fantastic. hedwig is raw, beautiful, sexy and fun/funky!

Taken from the book by Nick Hornby and directed by Stephen Frears so really with all these brilliant minds on one project, how can you go wrong?

AWESOME movie. I still love this, simply because David Bowie plays the Goblin King. One of those weird, dark kid's movies that probably scared you more than you wanted to admit. Oh, and Jennifer Connelly's in it too.

So this may actually be one of the smartest movies I have seen in a while. True, there is a LOT of crap out there, but that doesn't change the fact that this movie is brilliant. Basically, it tells the story of this guy Tony Wilso... So this may actually be one of the smartest movies I have seen in a while. True, there is a LOT of crap out there, but that doesn't change the fact that this movie is brilliant. Basically, it tells the story of this guy Tony Wilson and how he made Manchester the center of music in the seventies. It is build like a documentary and it's entertaining as hell! Tony Wilson makes so many smart, sarcastic side comments, you can't but smirk most of the time. You get a pretty good idea on the atmosphere of the time, not to mention on the musical scene. Joy Division, The sex pistols, New Order, Happy Mondays.....just to name a few. It's definetly worth watching! (and yes, I jumped up and down like an idiot when they showed Janie Jones from the Clash for miserable 5 seconds).

A fascinating documentary about the rise and fall of the Brit Pop music moment of the 90s. It may have barely made a blip in North America (I still cannot believe that Oasis is only known as "That Wonderwall band", but the genre made a lasting impact in the UK with much of the modern music being made there owes a huge debt to the bands of BritPop. Live Forever takes it's name from the Oasis song and certainly asks and answers the question "Where were you while we were getting high?" With compelling interviews from some of the major players such as Blur's Damon Albarn, Pulp's Jarvis Cocker and Oasis's brothers Gallagher who come across as bitter, depressed and as cocksure as ever, in that order. Live Forever sheds a light on the things in the background of the media-propelled musical genre of Brit Pop. Certainly fascinating and not just to those like me, who were and are fans.

Many English-Canadians find it unwatchable, sadly. Bruce McDonald is something of a maverick filmmaker and manages to make cool Canadian films like Hard Core Logo and Highway 61. The basic story is a small-town barber (Don McKellar) and a smuggler (Valerie Buhagiar) strap a corpse to the roof of a 63 Ford Galaxy and drive from northern Ontario done to New Orleans. It's the middle film in McDonald's road trip trilogy (the other two being Roadkill and Hard Core Logo) so their journey is chockful of oddities and bizarreness. Did I mention they were being chased by the devil?

Lost and confused in the city, she meets the mysterious Belleville Triplettes, in their youth a glamourous performing act who now subsist by bomb-fishing for frogs and performing as an odd jazz combo. Madame Souza joins them and soon discovers where Champion is being held and hatches a plan to rescue him. Bewilderingly creative, truly original and fascinating is the world of Les Triplettes de Belleville. See for yourself!

A surreal, bizarre, intense rock n roll fable. It's not a perfect film, but it's an intoxicating, can't-tear-your-eyes-away that puts a new spin on the freak show that rock n roll can be.
