In my house, The Electric Company was as much of a childrens' programming staple as Sesame Street. Here's a kids show that didn't talk down to kids and was full of character and substance.

Hey Dude used to come on like an hour before Are You Afraid of The Dark! It's a typical nickelodeon mini series! Great for kids, nothing too serious, nothing too dangerous.

Punky Brewster! I used to think you were so cool! With her funky colors and cool high tops. I think the second season is always the best out of the group , so I chose this one.
