When I first heard that this album included yodeling, I was puzzled but intrigued. And then when I listened to "Wind It Up", it all came together: the yodeling, the rapping, the killer beat. I didn't think it was possible, but I love this album even more than "Love Angel Music Baby". Although it will be a few years before I'll let my son listen to it.

A really rough and raw album that plays very easily. Could easily be mistaken for an incredibly cool Jazz album but it is so pure of angst ridden guitar laid voices wanting rock that it can't be mistaken with its direction. But I ... Although my favorite song on this album is by far and away "Talk", I love the raw, vulnerable sound that pervades X & Y. It reminds me so much of that raw and vulnerable feeling of falling (or being) in love.

Anyone who underestimated Brendan Benson's effect on the sound of this group will be emediatly shocked once they make it past the lead single. When it first came out, I was slightly bummed the sound wasn't harder, more White Stripes-ish, but over time I love the pop infusion. The songs are catchy, not overly popy, but a nice balance.
