Manhattan Murder Mystery (1993)

Manhattan Murder Mystery (1993)

The reunion of Keaton and Allen only improves this already enjoyable Allen comedy, since they're so comfortable with each other's neuroses that they're delightfully convincing as a married couple who suspect their neighbor of murdering his wife. This is one of my favorite Woody Allen movie. It is hilarious.

  • Mini review: Better than I had heard it was.

  • Jason Bateman, Jeremy Piven AND Jamie Foxx in a violent, action filled movie. This movie is SO good and has an allstar cast.

  • Kathy Bates and Stephen King make a great pairing. First she dazzles and frankly, scared the sh*t out of people in Misery, then she does another great performance as the mysterious, aloof yet endearing bat sh*t podunk mom. Awwww.

  • This movie horrified me. It was so good and it annoyed me when people used to tell me it wasn't scary, because they are obviously lying. Also Mischa Barton has a great performance in this movie.

First time, so twisted and shocking ... you will never forget it. Tom Berenger stars as an amnesiac who investigates his life before a car wreck took his memory, and finds that things were not all they should have been. The promising mystery gets less interesting as the script becomes more perfunctorily complicated, and a crucial plot twist toward the end throws the story onto a different track rather than letting the existing one grow richer through better characters. People don't count as much as surprises do in this film, so in that sense Shattered is a passable potboiler, no more and no less. Wolfgang Petersen (In the Line of Fire) capably directs, but even he can't work depth into the margins. Solid supporting performances from Greta Scacchi, Bob Hoskins, and Joanne Whalley-Kilmer.

I'm still sorting out what I think about the movie. The fact that I need to points that this is definitely a Lynch movie, in all fashions. I've heard comparisons between Mulholland and INLAND but feel that doing so will set the audiences expectations at the same level. INLAND EMPIRE is an entirely different experience. In retrospect, Mulholland looks like Disneyland to me with it's bright colors and sunshiney Naomi. INLAND is every color of gray you can imagine. It's a dark film, literally. Color seems very muted and reflects the heaviness of the content. Dialogue is slow but meaningfull. Laura Dern is brilliant. The music is incredible and I actually got the chills a few times from some scene/music combos. And I love the ending. I'm not going to lie, three hours is a long time but if you go and sit and let it wash over you you won't be disappointed. Be warned this film makes you work for it. Most likely after viewing you will walk away and say Huh?" much like after Mulholland. And much like Mulholland, after a repeat viewing things start to click into place. Enjoy!

It might also have been the most jinxed. Among its stars, James Dean was soon killed in a car crash, Sal Mineo died several years later, murdered by an unknown assailant, and the beautiful Natalie Wood died mysteriously when she fell from a docked pleasure boat and drowned. This heavily illustrated book recounts these and many other tragic events that have haunted the Hollywood movie community from its early-twentieth-century beginnings to the present day. I bought this book last week and cannot put it down. It is fascinating...

He is initially reluctant to help the police. The detective assigned to the murder seems happy to do nothing, leaving the investigation to a prostitute who witnessed the murder and the son of the deceased. I loved 'Dressed to Kill' - it is one of the quintessential thrillers of the 1980s and is a great suspense movie reminiscent of Alfred Hitchcock.

This is one of my favorite movie because of its subject, my love for New Orleans and its cast. It is an intriguing, unusual, beautifully directed, highly atmospheric film that successfully crosses any number of genre: film noir, thriller, mystery, and horror. The plot is simple. In the mid nineteen fifties, a mysterious and slightly sinister business man, Louis Cypher (Robert De Niro), hires Brooklyn gumshoe, Harry Angel (Mickey Rourke), for a missing person case. Angel's investigation, for which he is being paid a princely sum for the time, takes him from Harlem to New Orleans, as he looks for a former crooner named Johnny Favorite, who sometime during the early nineteen forties apparently welched on a business deal with Louis Cypher and hasn't been heard from since. What happens when Angel gets to New Orleans will be infused with voodoo rites, ritual murders and taboo sex. All my favorites.... in a movie that is!!
