Mille Bornes is French for "1,000 Milestones" or 1,000 ... This is one of those classic card games that I'd always heard about and never played until recently. I love it!!! I hate that it took me so long to discover it for myself. Mille Bornes is French for "1,000 Milestones" or 1,000 miles. The game is set up like a road race - complete with distance cards, hazards, remedys (for the hazards) and safety cards. The goal is to be the first to play exactly 1,000 miles during a hand. No more, no less. It looked daunting to learn, but was really very simple. I highly recommend it. It can be played by 2, 3, 4 or 6 people. When played by 4 or 6, it's played in teams of 2. These cards feature the original 1962 artwork.

It was the perfect thing for me in my parents to do while waiting for our food at restaurants as opposed to the awkward conversations about "my future" . It is a simple game that is fun and requires some thinking which is good. The only thing is that the pieces are tiny and can easily be lost. I wouldn't give this to small children obviously. I could prob take it out with me and my friends and turn it into a drinking game.

That's why I check early in the morning, before caffeine.) I love this one in particular because it has so many non-advent calendar usages. From creative party food display (fill the boxes with truffles or hors d'oeuvres, leaving some doors open so that people can see what's inside, and set it on the buffet), to a jewelry box (if you're very organized you can print up a list of what numbers correspond to which pieces and attach it to the back) or come up with a game (trivia or Memory perhaps?) to play at an event. Fun fashion pictures from the 80's (neon, jelly shoes, Aqua Net) that you print in pairs can go behind doors for a Memory-type game. Or type up baby questions or naughty sex truth-or-dare questions for a baby or bridal shower. How about putting a New Year's resolution or lifehack idea into each compartment and opening one a week in 2009? Or favorite quotes/relationship advice for an amazing wedding present? Whatever. It's all good. Or so says the whore.
