Inspired by antique Amish bar quilts and Gee's Bend quilts, this handmade lap quilt is a bright and modern patchwork version. A perfect sofa blanket or decorative throw quilt, it would also make a wonderful picnic blanket. The original quilt design is based on alternating "bars," one with solid white, the other with patchwork green stripes. To add some color, I appliqued bright red and turquoise patchwork blocks to the edge and added a bit of red to the quilt binding. The reverse of this quilt is made with a variegated green Marimekko fabric. The batting used in this quilt (the middle of the quilt "sandwich") gives this quilt a very light and summery feel.

This quilt has a wonderful weight and drape. It's heavier than many modern quilts because it has four layers, rather than the traditional three. This is because the linen is backed with a layer of muslin, for added stability.

I love how striking the large triangles are! Paired with a nice light grey Kona Cotton solid, this quilt will add a pop of color to any room. On the back, I threw in a few small squares to add interest to the solid Olive colored Kona Cotton. This quilt is a very generous lap or throw size or could also be used as a bed topper. (Shown on queen size bed) Size: 65" by 58" (165cm by 147cm) This is an heirloom-quality quilt! I do every bit of stitching myself. Made with all cotton fabric with Warm and Natural cotton batting sandwiched in between. Machine quilted in a freehand meandering pattern that gives the quilt a professional look and makes it very durable. I hand stitch the binding down on the back for a polished result. It has been machine washed and dried to give it that soft and crinkly feel. Remember, your quilt will get softer after each washing!
