Catch Me If You Can: The True Story of a Real Fake by Stan Redding, Frank W. Abagnale

You obviously can't believe a thing this guy says, but I love a good story that pretends to be true.

I also found that after reading this book I was part of (what seemed like) some secret club. At parties, if you recommend David Sedaris or refer to one of his stories, undoubtedly someone perks up and says "What about that story when he..." leading again to side-splitting laughter. I call it a book with lasting side effects.

His characters are so bizzare, and the stories normal yet disturbing. A family with children named Faith, Hope, Charity, and Adolph...a young boy with a penchant for writing about his activities with random men in public restrooms...David Sedaris is perverse, funny, and heartwarming all at once.

But these aren't ordinary cover letters. These are the cover letters you'd write when you don't give a damn. When you want to tell dirty jokes and reveal your darkest secrets. When you don't care what the HR rep sees, as long as they see it. All of them start off pretty normal, slowly descending into one man's madness or frustrations, until you realize you're reading something special. The results are always hilarious, often insightful and sometimes a little scary (until you remind yourself he's not being serious. I think.) Overqualified is another blog to book phenomenon, so many of the original letters are available to read for free here: http://www.asofterworld.com/oqarchive.php Some great examples: http://www.asofterworld.com/oq-display.php?id=48 http://www.asofterworld.com/oq-display.php?id=50 http://www.asofterworld.com/oq-display.php?id=33 http://www.asofterworld.com/oq-display.php?id=29 He actually used to SEND the letters until one of them got him a visit from the bobbies. Now he just posts them. I kinda miss knowing that at any given time, somewhere in corporate land, an HR rep is either doubled over in laughter or slowly recoiling from the craziness he's reading.

I laughed out loud so much while reading this book that the people around me thought I was insane. Ludicrous, irreverent, well-written, imaginative, descriptive and hilarious pretty much sums it up. The main character Ignatius J. Reilly is not your average fictional character, which is a blessing in itself. He is able to justify every one of his rude and selfish tendencies with flawed yet humorous logic. He regularly watches movies only to scream "What is this filmed abortion" at the screen and drops gems like "Canned food is a perversion." I love this book.

The Innocent Man chronicles the story of Ron Williamson, how he was arrested and charged with a crime he did not commit, how his case was (mis)handled and how an innocent man was sent to death row. Grisham's first work of nonfiction is shocking, disturbing, and enthralling--a must read for fiction and nonfiction fans.
