Mildred Pierce (1945)

Mildred Pierce (1945)

After her cheating husband leaves her, Mildred Pierce proves she can become independent and successful, but can't win the approval of her spoiled daughter. This films stars Joan Crawford asMildred Pierce Beragon, Jack Carson as Wally Fay, Zachary Scott as Monte Beragon, Eve Arden as Ida Corwin and Ann Blyth as Veda Pierce Forrester. Joan Crawford excels in the title role as does co-star Ann Blythe who normally played sweet heroines. Here she is the manipulative narcissistic daughter. The tension builds throughout this movie, the script is excellent and all the minor roles are cast and played beautifully. This movie is an absolute must-see!!

A modern film noir with witty dialogue. I don't think any older generations would like this in the least; it appeals much more to younger generations. I think of it like a mix of a film noir, with a dash of Lynch. Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays his part to perfection.

  • This movie is brilliant and tragic. It's the story of two reunited men who as boys in Catholic school fell in love. But there love was interrupted by a perverse priest with lecherous plans of his own. Directed by Pedro Almodovar.... This movie is brilliant and tragic. • A riveting contemporary film noir starring Russell Crowe before I disliked Russel Crowe. Also with Guy Pearce and Danny DeVito.

  • Such a classic from the 80's...can't really say anymore than that...well I can. It was revolutionary and was a tremendous story. Harrison Ford was obviously amazing.

To my knowledge "The Woman Chaser" has yet to be released on DVD. The first time I saw this movie was back in 2000 at a local art-house movie-theatre. Years later I bough it on VHS. Since then, the only action my VCR-player gets is from The Woman Chaser tape. Amazon.com is selling the video for $3.03 (f#@%! ridiculous). People often say,"you get what you pay". But this is an exception. Unfortunately, you'll have to wait for the tape to be rewound before the next viewing. The movie's main character (played by Patrick Warburton) is a car-dealer who feels he is wasting his life in the pursuit of money. He decides to make a movie in an attempt to find meaning in his uninspiring life. In the end, there's a big fire, a disgruntled secretary, and santa claus with a cow-bell. Filmed in black & white and based on Charles Willeford's book, The Woman Chaser is a film-noir masterpiece that is artfully perverse and woefully misunderstood. Where's the DVD?

"Monster's Ball" is presented by Director Marc Forster as a dark, dreary film-noir like drama involving the role of fate in bringing together two different but distraught people from different races. Heath plays one of the two main prison guards: Two of the prison guards are Hank (Billy Bob Thornton) and his son Sonny (Heath Ledger). Ledger, in an all too brief role, shines as the son who really doesn't want to follow in his father's footsteps. An excellent film but be forewarned that there are a couple of graphic sex scenes in the movie. Definitely not for the kiddies.
