I agree with Caroline and Allie, FreshDirect.com is a total god-send. They have delish snacks and entrees that are gourmet enough to serve for a nice dinner. The fruit selection is pretty good as is the wine. The delivery is quick and has always been on time. And, Inexplicably, I randomly receive free items I didn't order. One time it was three boxes of Barilla pasta, another a bar of soap, today I received a 12-pack of Amstel light (alright!) and, the best one, 6 four-packs of Orangina. I don't know why and I'm not going to ask. My only gripe is the wastefulness of the boxes! Every time I open up a box and see two small items in it I just shake my head. Surely there is a way to be a touch more eco-friendly.

I always try to keep lemons around the house for baking, cooking, fresh squeezed lemonade or fresh juice in my tea.

During the holidays I like to make my own mushroom gravy heavy cream. Also, you can use an electric hand mixer to whip the cream on high to make whipped topping for desserts. That simple.

I love making collard greens. I usually mix them like grandma use to do with mustard greens and kale.

I love, love granny smith apples. They're sweet and tart. They make a great snack when your on the go. And they're essential for apple pies. I also like to use a little minced granny apples in my cornbread stuffing.

When I'm not eating asiago straight up with crackers, I use it in my 3 cheese mac and cheese.

Garlic, I love you. I think I eat it everyday. When I'm congested and have a sore throat I eat two cloves of garlic and it clears my head in no time. Baby carrots are party essentials. They're good for everyday snacking and roasting as well.

My boyfriend likes it when I make him homemade spicy fries in the broiler. They come out crispy as if they were actually fried. I also quarter and roast them with my Thanksgiving turkey.

I don't eat butter on a weekly or even monthly basis. In fact, the only time I do buy butter is when I cook during the holidays. Thats when all health and dietary concerns are off. If you can, fresh herbs are a must. If you have to, I recommend growing fresh thyme, rosemary, and basil in your apartment. Its simple, easy, fun and the pay off is tremendous. It also will save you money at the grocery.

I rarely eat turkey, with the exception of Thanksgiving. I was hoping this year I could go hunting and bag my own turkey, riding myself of the guilt of contributing to poultry farms, but that may not be likely. I won't give up. Ho... However, if all else fails, I will need a bird for my dinner party so I may have to get it from fresh direct. This Thanksgiving, golden, oven roasted turkey with fresh herbs and roasted vegetables.

Cheese is my ultimate weakness. I love it. I love all kinds. Give me more! extra sharp cheddar is one of the three cheeses I use in my holiday baked macaroni and cheese. It gives it that sharp bite.
