When a young girl eager to go out trick-or-treating is ditched by her scheming cousin in the basement of an old dark house, a creepy new friend takes her to the ultimate Halloween party in this spooky animated tale directed by Ezekiel Norton and based on the books by Jill Thompson. Hannah Marie was all set for a fun evening of candy gathering when her mean cousin Jimmy leaves her all alone in the dark basement of a spooky mansion. Hannah Marie's Halloween isn't over yet though, because when her Scary Godmother finds the scared young girl, she spirits her away to the most happening Halloween party this side of Transylvania. If a night partying with Harry the Werewolf, Skully Pettibone, and Bug-A-Boo, and the rest of her Scary Godmother's spooky friends isn't enough to brighten the spirits of young Hannah Marie, a plan with her newfound friends for the ultimate revenge against Jimmy the bully will surely make this the most memorable Halloween ever. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

Fourteen songs are included in Barney's celebration and all are designed to stick in the brain. In lieu of haunted houses and ghoulish masks, the Barney team have fun with pumpkin carving and paper-bag owls, while spiders and piñatas serve as substitutes for trick or treating. In a side story, BJ and Baby Bop try their hand at door-to-door begging, but end up regretting the whole thing. Overall, Barney gets down with his fellow costumed guests and teaches viewers the value of old-fashioned fun. ~ Sarah Ing, All Movie Guide

Hands down the most depressing movie I've ever seen, and coming from India, I've seen quite a few believe me... This movie, criminally mis-advertised as some sort of rom-com, will pull you in a hundred directions, and simply does not offer any easy way out. All this, in a movie that features some of ABBA's frothiest hits. In all, not a movie to be missed.

This, the sophomore film from Kevin Smith is when he was still in his "making really hilarious films" mode. In a delightfully distasteful and half witted manner, Kevin Smith manages to take completely undignified characters and glorify them, as if they would actually be likable in real life. They wouldn't, but this film is one to love.

It was one of 2005's most critically acclaimed films, and won the Camera D'or for Best First Film at Cannes. Say if Diablo Cody had not only written Juno, but directed and starred in it as well, you'd be coming close to Me and You and Everyone We Know territory. Miranda July, who wrote, directed and stars as Christine, who falls in love with Richard (John Hawkes), a divorcing father and shoe salesman. How do hopeless people fall in love when they're hopeless? Watch this and find out. It's quietly confident, sunny, sweet and quirky, much in the vein of Juno but without the insanely hip dialogue. It's sweet central love story is tempered by some very audacious moments involving sex, but it's got so much charm it's hardly offensive enough to matter. Oh and ))<>((.

The absolutely brilliant Buster Keaton never managed to achieve the iconic status of Charlie Chaplin, despite the similarities between the two performers. But that's ok, because it allows us all to slowly discover Keaton's subtle and unbelievable genius. This set is for Keaton fans - it's got 11 of his feature films as well as selection of his shorts. It includes the classics The General, Steamboat Jr., Sherlock Jr., The Navigator and Three Ages. The "Great Stone Face" made films with humour, breathtaking stunts (without any of the modern technology we now take for granted), and old-fashioned romance. The only thing missing from this collection that I can see is the CBC-TV movie he made shortly before his death in 1966 called The Railrodder, a delightful little movie gem I remember from my childhood.

Watch the French version - it's virtually a silent film anyway - and allow yourself to be immersed into the odd whimsy of this movie. A boy named Champion is raised by his loving grandmother, Madame Souza and grows into a massively-thighed Tour de France competitor. However, during the race, he and a number of other cyclists are kidnapped by thugs and Madame Souza accompanied by her faithful, fat and flatulent dog Bruno chase after them to the metropolis of Belleville. Lost and confused in the city, she meets the mysterious Belleville Triplettes, in their youth a glamourous performing act who now subsist by bomb-fishing for frogs and performing as an odd jazz combo. Madame Souza joins them and soon discovers where Champion is being held and hatches a plan to rescue him. Bewilderingly creative, truly original and fascinating is the world of Les Triplettes de Belleville. See for yourself!

A by-the-books, overachieving London cop is "promoted" to the seemingly sleepy English countryside by colleagues who feel threatened by his work ethic. Starring the wonderful pair of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost as the rural cop he is partnered with, Hot Fuzz is a wickedly funny, bang-on satire/homage of the buddy-flick (ie. Lethal Weapon, Bad Boys). A chilling, amusing and near perfect film with enough quirks and foibles to give the audience a sense of otherworldiness. Film noir set in a rural part of the country and the hero is a very pregnant, tough-as-nails cop. Who else but the Coen Brothers could come up with something like this? I grew up pretty close to North Dakota, just over the border in Saskatchewan. So much about Fargo hit home for me when I first saw it. Saskatchewan winters are just like this, and while the accents where I come from aren't quite as distinctive, they're still very similar.
