Ciao Bella Fresh Mint Chocolate Chip Gelato

This takes mint chocolate chip to a whole other place. The gelato actually tastes like fresh mint has somehow disappeared into it, and the heaviness is obscured by the refreshing tingle. And there's chocolate. So, perfect. Somehow I continually justify spending $8 on it at the Italian imports shop near my place, and I'm the roommate who buys one-ply to save a buck. ($8 at icecreamsource)

Whether you call it a drink or a dessert, the affogato al caffè—a cup of gelato, typically vanilla, “drowned” in hot espresso—is a summer staple in Italy and, increasingly, in New York, where pastry chefs have started taking all sorts of creative liberties with the classic combination. This combination does not need more explanation. And Capogiro gelato need only a spoon of the right flavor (I understand how one would never enjoy horse-meat flavor ice cream no matter how wonderful the texture is) to convince you to open up your wallet and plunge down $10.xx for a pint. For gelato that are smooth, velvety, creamy, rich and yet never too sweet, consider it money well spent! I'm not lucky enough to have a Capogiro gelato shop opened nearby.. but fortunately, Balducci's here carries a few flavors. And what flavors! My favorites are; Pistacchio Siciliano Lemon Yogurt Pineapple Mint Blood Orange
