Woe Is I: The Grammarphobe's Guide to Better English in Plain English

A truly funny book on grammar

  • Grammar can be fun! At least with Lynne Truss, armed with a venerable British wit that's a cross between Douglas Adams and P.G. Wodehouse. You can actually learn some grammar ground rules here, but really, it's just a fun book... Grammar can be fun! You can actually learn some grammar ground rules here, but really, it's just a fun book. You'll laugh out loud at least once. Apparently, the Queen has been told the 'Panda Joke'. I'll let you buy the book to hear it. Also, I'm going to admit it right here: I, too, have found myself addicted to semicolons.

Some things never go out of style and this fabulous little book, The Elements of Style by William Strunk, is one of those things. My daughter pointed this book out to me in hopes that I would give it to her for Christmas last year. When I went back to the store to buy it for her, it was sold out. By the time it was re-stocked, Christmas was a memory and her birthday was looming on the horizon. I immediately snatched up a copy for her and one for me. Not only will you find the essential rules of grammar within its pages, the illustrations by Maira Kalman are simply delightful. A must have for any writer or better yet, a non-writer that needs help!
